Oldenberg aces Norsemen MX By Rolfe O tterness CAMBRIDGE, MN, MAY 12 J.ff Oldenoog mastered the sandy bump. of th. Norsem.n MC'. track and notched win. in both 250cc A moto•. Two weeks ago h.' raced the same track with much less success , crash ing out of contention after stro ng starts, but this week h. ran flawl ...ly. Thi. was y.t an other successfu l race for the Norsemen WIth rid .r . n tri•• numb.ring over 400. For a change of pa ce, the rid.rs circula ted the track in the oppo site direction' from the last ra ce. Dan Luloff .urged into th.lead a. th. pack rounded th. first turn of th e first moto, with Cra ig Schwam and Old.noog settl ing int o place behi nd him. For the first lap, !.uloff . Ir.tched hi. lead, whil. Oldenoog dropped to fourth momentarily when Mike At.kinson got by, Oldenberg shot back by Atkinson then passed Schwam to hold second . by the end of the first lap. For the next lap Oldenberg reeled in Luloff and then passed him at the end of a set of whoops by slowing enough to grab the inside line In the following corner. H. then pulled slowly away from Lulof!. Meanwhile Atkinson bad passed Schwam and was the fastest moving rider on the track. H. was gaining rapidly on Luloff and mad. the pass on the fifth lap. Then h. mad . a great dri ve to nearl y catch Oldenberg at th e checkered na~. Luloff held a solitary third at the fin ish, WIth Eric Metzger fourth after a battl e with Duan e Kuiken and David Niemi. Luloff pulled another holeshot in th e second moto, but Oldenberg di splaced him before th e concl usio n of th e first lap. Chad Cunningham and Robert Bergstrom trailed them across the lin e. Luloff kept close to keep the pressure on, but Oldenberg managed to lead all th e way for the win . Cunningham ran strong for rhe first half of th e race, with Cory Keen ey closing to dispute third. Keeney got by near th e halfwa y po in t, whil e Cunningham go t entangled in a four-rider battle when Metzger , J im Scott and Niemi caught up. At th e checkered flag , Oldenberg beat Luloff, wh o held about 30 se conds o ver Keeney. Metzger finished fourth ah ead o r Scott, Niem i a nd Cunningham. Corey Holcomb launched into th e first turn ahead of th e pack of 125cc A rid ers and cam . out with the lead. Cory Keeney motored by on the first lap with Rob Engstrom a distance behind, Keeney pulled ahead strongly in th e early . tal:'" of th e race, but Engstrom started closing In during th e last few laps, Keeney held o n for th e win with Engstrom a few seconds back. Brown and Steve Childress stol. the .how and the majority of the S2500 Pro purse a l 1-40 Motocross, as over 200 riders participated in the Championship final event of the Motul Super Series. Childress and Brown battled from .tart to finish both motos of the 125cc Pro cJass. Jim'. Motorcycl., John.on City/Pro Circuit.ponsored Brown took the haleshol with Mik. Padg.u right behind. O1ildress blew past Padgett after the first turn, and 10 laps of lead .wapping began. Brown dominated the lead for sev.n lap., but after Childress w.nt inside of Brown, on the eighth lap, the battled intensified. Childres. performed a brake check on Brown in the last lurn, and took the checkered flag in firsl place both molO•. Padgeu hounded Paul Dalton in both matos, but Dalton was abl. to hold off Padgett for third in both moto•. Th. 250cc Pro cla.. was an au.ntion grabbing rematch between Brown and Childr.... Brown ev.ned the scor. by winning both 10lap molo•. Childr....tuck to hi. rear fend.r for th. majority of the laps, but it was Brown who r.malned victoriou._ Mik. Padgeu and Billy Adkin. battled for third place, with Padgett edging out Adkin. in both motas. In th. Open class Kirk Hay.. and David Farri. distanced the pack as soon a. they cam. oUI of the gat..
