Road racer Randy Renfrow recently underwent a 10000hour operation at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angel es, California . Renfrow, who had his right thumb ampu tated a fter h is preseason testing crash a t Willow Springs International Raceway in southern California, underwent transplant surgery to give him a new thumb. "It was some day," Renfrow said " I will still hav e to hav e two to four more operations, but they are all decreasing in the amount of seriousness. This was the big one and the hard part is over. I've got a thumb and I can move it. Now I just have to wait, " Former AMA 250cc National Road Race Champion DOD Gre e n e is attempting to make a comeback with a new Yamaha TZ250 sponsored by Dianetics. "T'rn trying to make a comeback with a renewed commitment," Greene said " I' m looking to fight back to the top. I have a con tract with Keith (Code) and I just completed a purification program to stay health y. I'm read y to go." Greene will compete in the WERA Pro Series ' Formula Two class. the Japa nese 250cc Nationa l series, as has Hon da 's autornatic-transmissioned works CR250. Tomoyuk i Miyauchi, a Japanese factory Honda rider, piloted the automatic to a moto win at a recent National. The works Hon da has whi te radiator shrouds, a white gas tank, and a whi te airbox. A 1991 Suzuki GSX R750 was stolen from the parking lot of the Fairfield Land ing Res ta u ra nt in Fairf ield , California, on May 4. The Spaniard , who rides a Carnpsa- backed Honda NSR500 in the 500cc G Ps, will be out of action for six weeks and is expected to return for the Dutch GP on June 29. Las Vegas proved very pro perou s for the LaRocco family Saturday, May 4. Not on ly did Mike LaRocco score his first-ever Cam el Supercross victory and collect $5000 in prize mon ey, his mother, May, won $1200 playing the slot machines in one of th e ga mbli ng casinos on the Las Vegas strip. Road racer Kevin Magee was a spectator at the Spanish round of the World Championship Superbike Series o n April 28. The 28-year-old . Australian was in Spain to examine hi s options in the superbike class now that h is hopes of return ing to Grand P rix racin g ha ve faded. Ma gee, although keeping tigh t lipped, has apparently received offers from Kawasaki, Bimota, Ducati and Yamaha. The Kawasaki deal would reportedly see Magee raci ng in Australia, Formula On e in Japan and World Superbike. The Yamaha proposal is though t to be based around an F-I program in Japan, whi le Bimota would lik e to see him on the T esi ID in World Superbike. Magee is expected to mak e a decision regarding h is racing plans within th e next two weeks. After a seven year absence, motorc ycle com p etition will return to the 69th runni ng of th e Chevrolet P ik e s Peak Auto Hill Clim b in Colorado Sp rings, Colorado, J u ly 4. The AMAsanctioned race will be organized by Wa lly Dall en bach 's Co lorado 500, Inc., and will be staged as compan ion events to the car races. Motocrosser Guy Cooper of Team Suzuki, the defendi ng 125cc National Cham p ion, drove to T u lsa, O klahoma, im mediately following the April 27 Dall as Supercross, to watch his brot hers, j immy and Ralph, compete on the fina l day of the Four-Dar National Reliability End uro . Apparently Guy decided to give the enduro a shot when he go t there and he ended up scoring the overa ll win for the day. He easi ly won the fina l MX special test. The fu tu re of the Osterrichring, the ven ue for the Austrian round of the World Championship Superbike Series, is in doubt after it was recently closed beca use of noise pollu tion . However, it appears that, at least for th is year, scheduled events will go ahead, including the World Superbike round. T he issue is set to go to court in the near fut ure. Also p ictur ed were p r ototype 1992 Kawasakis , which featu red black gas tan ks and larger radiator shrouds that cover most of the tank, similar to H usq varna's design. FIM pr esident j os Vaasen was present at th e meetin g and expressed his own concern over the proposals. He agreed to seek a meetin g with CMS presiden t Tage Magn usso n to exert pressure for the retention of th e present G P form at of three classes. And at the May 5 Swedish G P, do ubt was cast on the validi ty of claims tha t th e J ap an ese manufacturers had soug ht the dem ise of the pres tige class of off-road raci ng. Magn usson said tha t last autumn he received a letter from Yamaha in j apan w hic h sta ted that they were categorically aga inst th e abo lition of the 500cc class, whi le Kawasak i team boss Alec Wright says that Kawasaki is also opposed bu t wou ld favor an ope n cl a ss World Champio ns hip where riders could use 250cc an d larger mach in es.
