A fighting second place finish behind Schwantz in th e opening T round of the championship in japan has done little to diminish the enthusiasm of Doohan's fans. Doohan won his first-ever GP in only hi s second GP seaso n last yea r. In addition, he stood on the rostrum five times. The Aussie, like his teammate Wa yne Gardner, will be among only a few of the top rid ers using Michelin rubber in 1991, and many see this as being his best cha nce of toppling Rainey and Schwanu.
