California , on Ap ril 19-21 for ro und three of
the World Ch ampionship Road ,Race Series.

ayne Rainey's near-perfect 1990 seaso n resulted
in hi s first-ever World Ch ampionshi p. The 30year-o ld Ca liforn ian won seven Grands Pr ix en
route to the titl e, and stood o n the rostrum in every
ot he r GP with th e exception of Hungary where he
suffered hi s on ly mechanical failure of the season.
Not man y are willing to bet against Rainey from
winning a second successive titl e in 1991. A third place
fini sh at th e season -o pening J apan ese GP came after
a ra ce-lon g fight with even tu a l winn er Kevin
Schwantz, runner-up Michael Doohan and teammate
J ohn Kocinski.
The blonde has made Laguna Seca hi s own of late,
earn ing two po le pos itions and two victories in the
relatively short three -year history of th e race.
