Kip Sandell motored away to dua l moto wi ns in the 250cc Pro class at the Sport Ri ders Association of Co lorado/M&M Connectionssponsored mo tocross at Aztec Raceway . Sandell led 36 o the r riders out of the ir-'te in bo th mo tos, and led fro m start to fintsh. Behind Sandell, Shawn Morgan , Andy Atkins ,a nd J ared Carlson diced and passed for position, bu t wh en the checkered flag dro pped they remained in that same order. In the 125cc Novice class, two qualifiers were ru n to fill the 40· ma n gate for the ma in event. The first qualifier was ha ndi ly won by Brad .H unem u ller and the second qualifier wen t' to Ji m McChesney. Hunemuller led th e pac k at th e start of the mai n, but McChesney, who suffered a mid pac k start, turned up th e .throttle and flew past Hunemuller and rod e across the finish li ne in first place. The firs t mota of the 60cc Novi ce class was led by J eff Greenwood. Greenwood wa s heavi ly challenged by Andy Short and Walt Whitmarsh. O n th e fourth lap, Whiunarsh fell . He remounted and made a spectacular bu t unsuccessful bid to regain third. Greenwood won while Short fini shed second ahea d of Whiunarsh. In the first moto, T on y Amaradid timed the ga te perfec tly and too k th e early lead. Bristol was buried in midpack, as was Rem y Rees. Rees rod e on th e ra gged edge , moved up through tl,e pack and by lap four was in the lead. Bristol had mo ved up and was cha lleng ing Amaridio for second wh en he swap ped hard on th e downhill and LTashed and inj ured his wri st. " I dnn 't know what happened. th e bike just went out from un derneath me," said Bristol. The LTash stu nn ed him and it took about a lap before he was back up 10 speed. Taking th e checke re d fl a g first ' was R ees with Amaridio right o n his tai l: Briswl nipped TIlad Merz to fin ish th ird. Mow two saw Rees get the h ol eshot fo llowed by Amaridio and Bristol. Rees q uickly stretched ou t a small lead as Bristol began to cha llenge Amaridio for second. The two riders bauled back a nd fort h for two laps before Bristol dispatched Amaridio and set o ut after Rees. Bristol began to chip away at Rees' lead , despite th e nagging wrist inj ury. Bristol made . his mov e in the back section and pu lled inw the lead , then got a break when Rees cras hed a lap later wh ich a llowed bot h Amaridio a nd Merz to slip by. T his mathematicly dinched the overa ll for a sore bu t happy Bris tol. Erik Kehoe swept four mo tos en route to wins in bo th the 125 and 250<:c Pro classes. Kehoe soared away in th e 250cc Pro class and was never challe nged during either mot o, but he faced greater o p pos itio n in th e 125cc class from Steve Lamson and Jim my Gaddis.
