Donald Bannerman, on ano ther Bultaco, came hom e third. . The other near-photo- fin ish came in 750cc Grand Prix, when Pat Moroney and his Harley-Davidson XR750 just couldn't qui te outru n Britain 's Colin Breeze in a da sh from th e last corn er to th e finish line. Moroney, the 1990 class champ, led most of the race, but the BSA Rocket 3 was ah ead when it coun ted - by a scant .01 seconds . . True to form, some of the best racing was between the oldest bikes on th e grid. In a Cla ss C field made up of 40- to 50-year-old ma chines, Norm Ne lso n m anaged to get his 1950 Norton Manx across the line first at race end after battling Moroney on a '51 Gil era Saturno and the '48 Indian Scout of Pat McHenry. In Classic 60s action, Mark Samuelson eked out a narrow win over Tim Stancill, both aboard BSA Gold Stars. Three. more Gold Stars, all 1956 models, foll owed in third through fifth , ridden by Nelson , Edward Sensen ig and John Phillips. T he Pre-1940 victory went to the 1926 Indian Scout of Butch Baer after he traded the lead through out the race wit h J im Smith's '28 Indian , Al Knapp on hi s .'40 H -D WLDR and Ozzie Auer's 1939 BMW R51-SS.
