At Atlanta I was a t m y tr u ck beginning to sign au tographs a n d visit with my fans who had supported me during the race, when a security guy ca me and told me I h ad to go with him (to the press box). I was kept th er e way too long an d did n o t get to finish my j ob behind m y truck. T his was n ot my fa u lt a nd I apologize. I was told abou t five m inutes befor e I returned th at everyone had begun to leave. I d id return to my tr uc k and was sorry to see that everyone was go ne : Lhope to see eac h a nd every one of m y fans at a nother race an d be able to make this u p so me how. T hanks for your support. Again I would like to thank you a nd the Cycle News subscribers who have sent us magazines and C ycl e News. It's great to just be an American and th e support of the American people is absolutel y awesome. I h ad to go over to th e IOlst Airborne Division today a nd th ey have it pretty rough. I co u ldn' t find th e people I had to call on so I walked into a tent to ask so meone for di rectio n s. MotoS t u ds h a s recen tly reached agreemen t with Doug Fort an d Santa Maria Speedway an d will hold AM A District 36 short track events a t th e faci lity's o ne-third mile banked ova l. The two dat es currently sched u led are April 12 a nd Ma y 10, with th e definite possibilit y of a six-race series if these first two events are well attended. District 36, with th e addition o f Santa Maria Speedway an d Lodi and Argy ll P ark alr eady scheduled, has greatly ex pan ded what was al ready the la rg est a mate ur d irt tra ck raci ng program in the western U n ited States. If yo u add in DTX a n d Vintage clas ses, and R &D 's Cal State Championsh ip Series, Bakersfield Racers Association Series a nd Carlsbad, dirt track racing is making a dramatic comeback in th e West. Todd Heming, 27, of Glendora , Ca lifornia, was in vo lved in a fatal acci de nt while racing a t Willow Springs. All wh o were lu cky enough to have known Todd know th at he was one to go beyond the call of duty to help friends in need. H e was a high achiever, exce llen t in wha tever he was in vo lved in. Todd was always good for a smile a nd had a way of cheering up the darkest o f days. T odd's gone n ow, but his mem ory a n d free spirit will la st for ever. We'll m iss ya, Bu d.
