~ SUPERCROSS Coors/ASK Indoor Motocross Series: Final rounds e Eickel event ua lly gave up second to Ups ha w wh en he nearly cras hed in some wh oops. Ups ha w then began to carve into Ch ildress' lead and was on the leader's rear wh eel wh en the wh ite flag came out. Chi ldress used every move h e h ad a n d co ll ide d wi th Upshaw when he tried to block a pass attempt. Upshaw went off the side of the track and reen tered to cross the finish line first, but he had mi ssed part of the course a nd was penal ized one lap whi ch dropped him to eigh th . Childress was cred ited with the wi n over Eickel and Musse lm an, whi le Bow en and Kizzar worked up from poor starts to finish fourth and fift h. . Eickel led th e start of the 250cc Pro main , but Glass soon took the lead and tri ed to get away from the string o f Suzu kis behind him . Upshaw and Bowen also pi cked off Eickel, and it wasn ' t long before Upshaw led Bowen around G lass. T he two riders battled for the lead .un til Bowen found a line to swoo p pa st Ups ha w a nd take th e win. G lass ma intai ned third to the fini sh as Kizzar and Childress pa ssed a fadi ng Eickel to finis h fourth and fifth. Keith Bowen won three out of six Pro main events at the Huntington Indoor MX. P atton , Jr. HUl\'TINGTON, WV, ]AN. 4-6 eith Bowen spearhea ded a Su zuki sweep of the Iast three ro un ds of the Coo rs/ASK Indoor Motocr oss Series held in the Huntington Civic Center. After th ree co nsecu tive days o f . raci ng, T uf Ra cing-backed Bowen ha d collected a Pr o class ma in event win on each day. Kenney Kizzar added two mor e Pro class wins for Suzuki while Steve Childress co ntri bu ted one victory for th e yellow marque. O th er big winners for th e weeken d included J eff Gibson , who won all six Pee Wee class mains. Gibso n also p icked up second , third and fourth place finishes in the 65cc (7-11) classes. K . Mar k Burkhart do mi nated the 65cc (7-11) and 85cc (7-11) di visio n, winn in g four stra ight mai n events . Friday Chi ldress had brok en a shi fter return spri ng while chasi ng J am es Eickel in the first 125cc P ro class heat and had to work franticall y to rep lace it before the start of the fin al. T he added ten sion apparently worked to Ch ild ress' favor as he shot into th e lead ahead of heat two winner Mark Mussel man , LCQ winner Jason Ups haw , Eickel and J eff G lass. Eickel q uic kly moved to secon d, bu t Chi ldress had already opened up a sma ll lead. Satu rday Eickel was leading the 125cc Pro fin al when an other rider bai led off and hi s bi ke knoc ked Eickel down to the back of the pack. G lass assumed th e lead bu t Bo wen quickl y passed him then mo tor ed away to th e victo ry. G lass held on to seco nd while Kizzar and Childress pas sed Chuck Reed la te in th e race to fini sh third and fourth. Kizzar had to rid e th e co nsola tio n race to make the 250cc Pro main, but he roc keted into the lead ah ead of Eickel and Glass. Eickel collided with Kizzar wh ile trying to ma ke a pass and dropped o ut wit h a da maged bike. Kizzar stayed upright and never loo ked back until he crossed the finish line with th e win. Ups ha w sta rted ninth b ut too k advantage of a cras h by Bowen a nd a fast lin e th rough a whoop sectio n to sh red throug h the pack. Upshaw used his fast line in the wh oops to pass G lass for second, and David Hand tr ied to foll ow hi m th ro ugh but was un su ccessful. T wo turns later Hand stuffed G lass for third and he finis hed th ere behind Kizzar, Gl ass hung to fourt h an d Ch ildress ro unded o ut th e top five. Sunday Mu sselm an got the holesho t a t th e sta rt of the 125cc P ro main, but hi s time o u t front was limited as both Ch ildress a nd G lass quickl y went around him . Gl ass th en pas sed Childress in a rocker sectio n, but go t ou t of shape over a jump and landed crossed up in some ruts. Childr ess flew over the jump to find Gl ass sideways across his landing area, and th e cras h sent both riders down as well as Blan e Armbruster. Kizzar inheri ted the lead with Bow en rig h t beh ind him , but Bowen soo n .cras hed trying to take the lead. " I tried to make my move too soo n and I hit Kenn y's rear wh eel," said Bow en. . Bowen 's m istake moved Hand to second , wh ile Mu sselm an had recovered from hi s early mistakes to settle into th ird p lace ahead of Rod Phillips and that's how th ey fini shed beh ind Kizzar. Ch ildress mad e an all -out effort to gra b fifth a t the fin ish . . Mu sselmann also led the start of the 250cc main and was able to hold hi s adva ntage as Gl ass moved a hea d of Kizzar for second. Bo wen , ho wever, was reall y on the gas and sliced hi s way past Kizzar and G lass to move up on Mu sselm an 's rear wh eel. Bowen eve n tu a lly m o ved by Musselman th rough a wh oop sectio n th en sailed to an easy win.
