Smith won bo'h l 25cc Pro mo'os but had
to con tend with Instinct Racing Kawasaki ·
backed Ray Crumb, espec ia lly in the firs'
moto. Smith jumped into the lead o f mo lO
one but a co u ple of laps inlO th e race, Crumb
zap ped him to take the lead. Crumb opened
a sma ll lead , but Smith closed back in . After
an exci ting dice. Smith eventua lly regained
'he lead and held o n for 'he win .
Cr umb looked like he wou ld ta ke con tro l
o f th e second mo lO, but Smith got by and
stayed o ut in fron' for th e win and th e overall,
with Crumb, again, second. Brian Call used
a pair of thirds '0 fin ish third overa ll .
Smith ended up with both w ins and th e
overa ll victory in th e 2500c Pr o cla ss.
In the opening moto, a slew o f SUl u kis were
hot o n his tail with Scott Myers, Kell y Andris
and Call at 'he co ntrol s. Husqvama ·mounted
Shaun Wooten was back in fifth. After a
co u ple of laps Myers stalled th e mo'or in a
tricky tum before th e rockers and Andris
tangled with him. Wh ile th ey were try in g
get restarted Call and Woo,en slipped by a nd
began di ce. By th e ti me Woo,en go' by Call ,
Smi' h had stre tched h is lead and. thou~h
Woo,en closed th e ga p co nsiderably. Smtth
had things under con tro l and stayed for th e
wi n over Woo,en . Andris wo rked a ll the way
back to third.
Myers roos,ed into ' he lead in th e seco nd
mot o, bu, Smi ' h worked by and con tin ued
on for ano th er win. Myers ba 'tled with Andri s
for second but Myers was in fin e fonn and
took control of second a nd began ' c has ing
down Smith. Andris ga ve it hi s a ll, bu' Smith

It was a wild affair between David Hand,
Bueh l, Mu sselman, Bowen, Childress, Davey
Yezek , Jeff G lass, Kurt McMillen and Jeff
Beckington. Wh en the du st had cleared it wa s
H and sett ling into th e runner-up po sit ion
a hea d o f McMillen, Gl ass, Childress and
Yezek.
