T
he second round of the 2020
MotoGP World Championship
saw Fabio Quartararo (Petro-
nas Sprinta Yamaha) romp home to a
second successive race victory ahead
of factory Yamaha teammates Maverick
Vinales and Valentino Rossi.
In absolutely scorching Spanish
sunshine that saw track temperatures
reach over 140° F, Quartararo was
impervious, claiming pole position after
Vinales' time was discounted for run-
ning out of track limits. The French star
got to the front at turn one and never
looked back, streaking away for a com-
fortable 4.4-second victory.
It was looking for a while that Pecco
Bagnaia (Pramac Ducati) would secure
a maiden MotoGP podium after fight-
ing his way past teammate Jack Miller,
Vinales and mentor Rossi, only for the
engine on his Desmosedici to expire
with six laps remaining.
That elevated Rossi to second, who
fought valiantly until Vinales forced a
mistake from the veteran with two laps
to go.
Fourth went to the impressive
Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Idemitsu
Honda) ahead of Suzuki Ecstar's Joan
Mir in fifth.
Déjà vu, MotoGP-style
Round two and Fabio Quartararo doubles up for
back-to-back race victories, as Yamaha locks out the
podium for the first time since 2014
