On his secon d run, Alderma n wound-up the Suzuki away from the sta rt ing line, recording a stunni ng I.I 4-second 60-foot time (eq ua l to Myers' best ever), bu t was a lmos t p itched from the bik e du e to the tremendou s accelera tion. Born in Watsa, So uth Dak ota , Ma ste rson served as Distr ict 36 referee in the '60s an d as the Western Na tio nal referee until his retirement in 1982. Along w i th h is wife, Alice RobertsMas te rso n, th e m oth er o f Kenn y Roberts, Masterson lived o n Ken ny's Hickma n, Cali fo rnia, ran ch. Altho ug h he was reti red, he was called upon o n a number of occa sio ns to put h is expe rie nce as a heavy eq uip ment operator to use in help ing build dirt tracks in the northern Ca lifornia area.
