The Mike Kidd-promoted 1 9 91 Arenacross Series gets underway in Guthrie, Oklahoma's Lazy E Arena, January 4-6. Subsequent rounds will take place in the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa, Texas, January 1113; San Francisco's Cow Palace, Feb ruary 8-10; County Coliseum in EI Paso, Texas, February 15-17; and the Denver Co liseum in Denver, Colorado, March 1-3. At alI rounds, pro racing wilI take p lace Friday and Saturday night with amateur competition being staged Sunday afteroon. The pro purse at each round is $15,000. AlI tracks will be co nstructed by Blak e Hamilton Track Designs, the folks who were in charge of track . construction and preparation for the U.S. 500cc MX GP a~ G len Helen this past August, Baja Promotions has announced its mos t ambitious south of the border "down Mexico way" racing schedule to date. Beginning its" fourth season will be the Golden Crown of Baja Series which gets underway with the running of the February 8-10 250-mile Gran Carrera de San Felipe. Four other rounds folIow the opener. Also enter- ' ing its fourth season is the Gran Prixs de Baja Series and the first of five rounds will take place on February 23 with the running of the Mexicali Gran Prix. A new ' series, the Short-Course United Drivers Series (SUDS) kicks off with the March 9-10 Tecate Beer Good Life race at the Santa Veronica OffRoad Park & Raceway near Tecate, Baja California, Mexico. SU DS is part of an eight-race series, with four rounds of the Miller High Life ShortCourse Series at southern California's Glen Helen OHV Park also used in determining the combined series champions who will split up a $10,000 point fund. John Taylor, orga nizer of the December 9 Brad Lackey Christmas Grand Prix in Carlsbad, California, says many people are confused about the Bridgesto ne Team Race of Champions. The team race, in which two-rider teams wilI have to exchange wrist bands every lap, will take place folIowing the running of a ll regular classes . Taylor also says he 's lined up two four-wheel drive water trucks to keep dust to a minimum, and that entries have been received from multitime MX National champ B roc Glo v e r , and new ly-signed Honda riders Jeremy McGrat h and Ryan Hughes. The 21st Annual Florida WinterAm MX Series wilI get underway a t Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainesville, December 28-30, and co nt i n ue at different venues on three of the nex t 'fo ur weekends before returning to Gatorback for the final round, February 2-3. January 12-13 is th e open weekend du e to ,the running of the Orlando round of the Camel Supercro ss Series on January 12. Due to large turnouts at the opening round the past two years, racing will be conducted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the December 28-30 ' Gatorback meet. National Trials Ch a m p io n R ya n Young has reached an agreement with the Tryals Shop, the La nd O 'Lakes, Florida-based U.S. distributor of Apri lia trials bikes, to rejoin the Aprilia team after a year with Beta. Young will pilot the new Aprilia 300 Climber in the 10 National Championship Observed Trials Series rounds scheduled for 199 1. Texan Doug Polen headlines a list of top road racers that wilI venture south to Mex ico City, Mexico, to participate in an international superbike event on December 9. Polen, who won the race last year on a Yoshimura Suzuki, wilI compete on a Fast By Ferracci Ducati only days after com pleting his firs t ride on the bike during Dunlop tire tests at Daytona on December 6-7. Polen will match his ta lents against the likes of newlycrowned World Superbike Champion Raymond Roche , FIM endurance champ Alex Viera, Tom Kipp, Dale Quarterley, and a host of others. Three-time Grand National Champion Jay Springsteen and Bartels Harley-Davidson will continue their relationship in the 1991 Camel Pro Series. Springsteen, riding a Bartelssponsored XR750 tuned by John PowelI, finished fourth in the 1990 Camel Pro Series , his best finish in the fina l point standings since 1985. In road racing, Springsteen will continue riding for Del Amo of California'. The type of motorcycle Springsteen wilI campaign on asphalt has yet to be decided. Del Amo is a Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Ducati dealership. SCORE/ ADRA held its-;nnual yearend awards ba n q uet at the Gold Coast Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, December I. Roger Hurd was honored as the champion in Class 20 (125cc); Joey Lane, Class 21 (250cc); Larry Roeseler , Class 22 -(500cc); Kenny Parry, Class 30 (O V 30 years of age); e1" Ron Gray, Class 40 (Over 40); and AI Guzman, Class 50 (Over 50). Reports from .Europe indicate that 500cc MX World Champions Eric Geboers and Georges Jobe are poised to form a two-man team to contest the 1991 500cc World Championship MX Series .pn 1990 factory . Hondas. Geboers, who was u nable to put together a package to manage a private team on factory Hondas, admitted at the Paris Supercross that he has been negotiating with his longtime adversary, who has found financial support , but that nothing was certain. Although Geboers had said that he would retire and compete in selected GPs next year, it is rumored that he is planning a schedule which includes eight of the 12 500cc GPs. Should he be in contention for a sixth World title it's difficult to imagine him not contesting the entire series. The " fa re welI season" for Eri c Geboers ended with a trip to the hospital when he crashed and broke ' his collarbone in the first night of competition in Paris. Just moments before his crash a cat had run across the track and Mike Kiedrowski just avoideda potentialIy dangerous incident. It is unknown if the cat was black. ' ..
