The fina l round of the AMA National Championship Junior Dirt Track Series went down the drain when the September 9 Syracuse Mile was rained out. Tillson, who was on top of the point standings following the previous round - the Labor Day · weekend Springfield Mile, didn't get the opportunity to shake the champagne and spray the crowd to celebrate his title. As you may know, during the first half of this year, the exchange rate averaged YI51=$I.OO. In recent months. this rate has plunged to as low as YI25=$I.oo, ' a 12% cost increase. This increase not only affects our products from Japan, but also our U.S. manufactured products to the 'e xtent of their 'japanese purchase content. After serious consideration of the competitive market situation of our entire product line, we find it necessary to increase prices on four models (two motorcycles and two ATVs), effective December I, 1990." The 1991 VFR750FM/LM suggested retail price has been increased by $200, from $6998 to . $7198; and the CBR600F2M/LM by $300, from $4998 to $5298. The four-wheel TRX300FWM and TRX300M along with the "New Hampshire" versions of both ATVs received $50 increases. The American Road Racing Association (ARRA) will culminate its 1990 season with the running of the 12th and final round of the Del Amol Miller High Life Formula One Grand Prix at southern California's Willow Springs International Race-s way, December 16. The penultimate round, run last month, saw AMA National Championship Superbike Road Race Series competitor Thomas Stevens duel with and out-run the 1990 ARRA Formula One champ Chuck Graves, and young Kenny Roberts Jr., son of former, World Champion Kenny Roberts, make his Formula One debut. Purses for most of the 18 rounds of the 1991 Camel Supercross Series have' increased significantly. Both the March 9 Daytona Supercross and the January 26 Anaheim Supercross will put $60,000 up for grabs, the April 1314 Pontiac Supercross doubleheader offers a combined purse of$70,OOO, and a purse of $45,000 will be posted for each of the other rounds. As reported earlier, Camel has increased its sponsorship of the 250cc class from $125,000 this year to a record $200,000 for 1991.
