The Missouri Mudders set up an excellent 12-mile loop which incl uded a lo t 01 new tigh t woods trails. O vercast skies. a tem per a ture 0150 degrees and just eno ug h rai n th e previous ni ght to mak e th e ground tacky made enjoyable riding. Dwane Miinch , Tim Newell and J im Stanlield were banging bar s as th e group d isappeared into the woods at th e start of the two-hour event. At th e end 01 th e li rst lap it was Newell ou t from with Jerry Hemann on hi s tail fol lowed by Ru sty Reynau d an d Ca plinger. When th e second lap was co m pleted Ne well , Reynaud. a nd Hemann pined lor gas and Caplinger too k the lead. He pressed h is advantage- of a big gas ta nk into a two -mi nute lead by the end 01 the third lap. eventually .laking the overall win by four m m u les in fou r laps.
