Moto one of the Senior Mini class was a thriller as Alabama 's Danny Hay nes grabbed the ho leshot with Patrick H izel in tow. Lap two saw Hizel take the lead on ly to overs hoo t a berm and give the lead back to Haynes. The two riders were soo n joi ned by Da m yn Swanepoel, The three riders put on a good show as they battled to the checkered nag with Hiza l slidi ng by Haynes in a tigh t turn for the win , Moto two looked to be a repeat as Hay nes aga in put his Kawasaki ou t front. only to take an ear ly spill. CA. ocr. 21 Honda-mounted J aso n Ritchey returned to action after an absena of several weeks and comp letely dominated both motas of the combined 125cc Novice/Junior raceatthefirst da y race of the winter season at Cydeland ' Speedway. Ritch ey wasted no time by ta ki ng .the hol esh ot in the first mot o a hea d of Eric Jo hns on , Jos h Gi ffin an d Brian Pierce. Pier ce ma de his inten tion s clear by passing G iffin in the first hal f-lap and setu ng out alter Johnson . Pierce ca ug h t Johnson in the roc kers a nd ramm ed him as the twO riders exi ted the stadium po rtion of the track. Johnson was able to main ta in his position and d osed on Ritchey. As the trio of rid ers en tered the rockers on the third lap. Ritchey got out of sha pe and let Joh nson by. J ohnson 's lead lasted less than a lap as he went down in a high-banked berm. Ritchey reassumed the lead followed by Giffin and Pier ce. Johnson was slow to get under way but soo n caught Pierce and passed him for third. At the fini sh Rit che y outdistanced Giffin. who wa s foll owed acros s th e line by J ohnson a nd Pi erce. As the ga te fell for the second moto, it was Ri tchey agai n in front . wit h Johnson. Giffin an d Pierce giv ing chase. As the first Lapdrew to an end. Pierce ou tjumped Giffin on the tabletop to take third. Gill in , however. was u nwillIng to give up his positio n. He stayed close to Pierce for the next three laps, bu t crashed over the tabl etop goi n~ for the pass. The res ~ti ve positions remaIned the sa to the lt nish. Ritchey took the win for the overa ll a nd the win in the Junior c J ohnson foll owed him across the lin e for lirst m the Novice d ass.
