the first loop. I lost a lot of time getting enough gas to get bac k to the p its." " I knew it was going to be tough to catch Jimmie now that he knew where he was going. So I just kept going and tried to survive because in this race it isn 't over until you 're back at the Bike Barn. " Halfway into the second loop I came upon Joe Zierman stuck in a creek crossi ng," said Fredette. " I thought he had watered out so I went on around. Then at another creek cross ing I kind of hes itated and J oe went around me. So we raced for a while, but the n he lost the arrows or something in a big field and I too k over the lead . Righ t after that we got in the fast woods and the peat bogs and I never saw h im again." Zierman said, " I had th ird by about five minutes la te in the second loop until I went upside down in a creek crossing. I had a hard time restarting and that's when Fredette went around me. I thin k Fredette must have done the same thing I did for I caught and passed him at another creek. Then he pulled me with that little 200 in a corn field. Wow! This is the first year I've finished this race. It was a typical Gusse' race , trashy, all the gullies and was hes and logs in the world. It's a , to ugh race. It always has been and you don't ride it for fu n, you ride this one for the challenge. The o n ly reason I'm riding is because I haven' t finished it in about six attempts." Kawasaki rider Harvey Wh ipple was fifth overa ll two minutes ahead of H onda -m o unted Steve Su lzberger, Dave Pucharich was seventh. " I've been riding this race for 10 years," sai d H usky rider Gary Peterson. "Now tha t I' ve won the A cIass it may be time to retire." . Kawasaki rider Dan Buck took second in the A cIass and said, " It was an excellen t course and a great race if you could live through it." Steven Swa tchend, David Kerwell and Tom Deso rt rounde d out the to p five A cIass riders. Rod Gorzney wo n the Senior cIass for the second year with Mike Ellis second. Eri k Prudy diced with fellow Suzuki rider T .]. Timmerman in the Mini cIass Saturday race before taking the lead for good on the second l l -rnil e lap. Ryan Moss was third followed by Darin Housenga and Chris Wolf. Ray Posto n came out of retirement to win the Super Senior with " Gabby" Hayes second. H ayes said, "I rode the first 50 miles without finding anything impossible to ride . I thought maybe Bill was getting soft, Then I came to the last creek crossing and when the water came up to the saddle a nd the motor conked out, I knew Bill hadn 't cha nged."
