Sober VICroRVILLE, CA, SEPT. 8 Current Speedway Champion Bobby " Boo ga · 1 00" Schwazu added another championship cup to hi s tro phy case wi th the tra ck final win at Speedway USA in Victorville. The fin a l race of th e seaso n a t the H igh Deser t ova l was staged in the standa rd l6-rider champ io nship format, bu, was referred to as the tra ck fin al du e to the lack of a championship level p ur se. Schwartz won Ihe event despite losing a fourth round hea t to ri val Steve L ucero. Lucero, who was th e reigning Track Cham · p ion co m ing into the event, had a perfect score after defeatin g Sch wa rtz in th at race and looked lik e a lock to win his seco nd straig h t final . but he experie nced mecha nica l problems in his fina l ride a nd had to push his bik e across th e finish line to get the o ne point tha t is awa rded fo r a th ird-place finish. T ha t left the door wide open for Schwaru, who o n ly had ( 0 win his lasl hea t to claim Lhe overall wi n. Tha t last ride wa s anyth ing but a cakewa lk ho wever, as " Boogaloo " was p itt ed aga i ns t Alan C h ris tia n . Fi nch and Nor · thrup were bot h surprising pa rt icipants at this stage of the event but each rod e well and " EI R o nco" V illarrea l took his Suzuki GSXR750 to the Open class w in in the G P d e la Amistad, a 200 kilometer endurance race at the A u to d ro m del Norte. deserved the sho t at th ird overall.
