LAKE ODESSA, MI, SEPT. 3
Brothers Paul a nd Kip Kops put on quite a
show in the combined 125/200/25Occ A class
a t the 1-96TT.
T he Kop s amused the crowd with a few
trick s they 've learned from eac h ot her over the
years. Both came off the line together close
eno ugh 1 hold ha nds. They exchanged the
0
lead back and forth several tim es before Kip
Kop s went down in turn four, his Kawasaki
slidi ng OUI fro m under hi m. Paul Kop s got
serio us a fter that when he realized he ha d thr ee
riders behind him. Chris Anthes. Ron Imhoff
a nd Rick Vinc ent were each making an
attem p t at taking over the lead . Kops managed
10 ho ld them all off 10 the win: .
Bria n Miller look rhe advantage off the line
in the Iirst heal of the Senior class. Mill er
kept his Yamaha a good five lengths out in
front of the bat tle behin d him between Tom
Cummings and Mike Babka . Cummings and
his Har ley-Davidso n go t the holesh ot with
Miller on the outs ide and Babka in between
on his Yama ha. The three riders came through
the tra nsfer to the quart er-mile side-by-side,
coming around the comers, over the jump and
o n to th e other transfer handle bar-toha n dlebar. When .lhe dust finally settled, it
was Babka who emerged fro m the bro wn clay
clo ud first.
.
The twins came out 10 play on the big TT
track wit h fou r Triu mp hs a nswering the call
10 the line. Don Bannerman got the holeshot
over Rick Sentell, who was a half whee l
behind. Sen tell look over the lead when
Ban nerma n came into the ha irpin 100fast and
. missed it completely. Sente ll ope ned up the
awesome-soundi ng twin on the fron t straigh taway , and kep t a comfortable distance o n the
rest of the field to the flag, The o ther twi ns
0
were trying 1 become triplets a s the three
riders brought it dow n to the wire ha ndlebarto-handlebar,
The Super Seniors didn 't try to Iit three
riders th ro ugh the firs t tninsfer together they tried 1 fit four. John Warren, Robert
0
Russe ll, Rock y Watso n and Don Bannerman
all managed to make it safely through a spa ce
abo ut as b ig as a doorwa y. Russell ca me onto
. the half- mi le transfer first, then Warren went
three wide in to tum three to take it away fro m
him. Ru ssell found hi mself ridi ng a fine line
between Watson a nd Bannerman for much of
the race. On lap four , Bannerman took a slight
advantage over Ru ssell. Ru ssell then lost h is
thi rd-p lace advantage to Watson, and had to
figh t tooth-and-nail 10 get it back under the
