Bobby McDowell pulled out a n ear ly lead
in heat two. Rex Fisher moved up to ma ke
it close. but McDowell held on. SCOll Stump
held secon d early. bu t a slowly deflating tire
wou ld pu t him ou t by lap five. Mar c Gtfford
held Randy Roose, Corey Brin k and Ri ck
H ocking off for the last transfer.
Tim Merten s came from the middle of the
pac k to take the third heat in a hotl y contes ted
affair. Merten s topped two more rook ies Larry Pegram and Mike Hal e. Aaro n H ill .
Mickey Fay and Brian Anderson would get
one more tty in the semi.
The closes t heat was the last as Dave Camlin
and Dan fngram locked in a fierce battle for
the win. Camlin held on for the win . J eff Dietz
too k a very close race for th ird from Troy
Norris, Kirk Strong and Dave Hebb .
The Expert serm started as a real dogfight
between Hill, Reed . Fay a nd Stron g. Reia took
over o n lap thr ee, then Strong fell on lap four
leavin g the front th ree ,to battle for star ti ng
po sit ions. Mike Inderbitzen closed on hi s 750,
lookin g for a mistake by the fron t-runners tha t
didn 't come.
T im Mertens was Iirst off the line in the
Expert main. wh ile Durelle, Ingram and Hill
(who had come from row th ree) gave chase.
Dur elle quickly caught Mertens and worked
his way around by lap three. Durelle then put
a little dis tance betw een himself and Merten s
as both rid ers pulled awa y. Ingram, Hill and
H ale held close formation for th ird through
sixth .
By lap nine. th e top two pos iti ons were set.
but th e war o ver third now involved In gr ,

Hill, H ale, Camlin, McDowell and Pegram.
The posi tio n fell to the man who bad come
via hISwin of the semi, Aaron Hill. Hale and
Ca mli n also go t by Ingram a~ the end.

Fleming first at Cobleskill MX

Doug Fleming mastered the mud a ' Cobleskill
MX Park
win the Plus 25 Expert class. A
steady rain Saturday night made for extremely .
muddy condition s a' Cobleskill's final race
of the season .
Fleming rode his Kawasaki 125 to 'he limit
in the muddy firs, moto, but Mike Dougherty
held him off the whole race.
A, the start of moto two Doulllherry took
the front position with Fleming nght on his
back fender. Dougherty accidently cut a 'urn
,ight and went off the track momentarily.
He kep' the lead bu' then paused in the next
'urn. Fleming shot by and inlO the lead.
Despite being on a smaller motorcycle,
Flem ing kept Dougherty a' bay . At the finish
line hill Dougherty tried to ou'-power
Fleming, but came up short by balf a bike
length.
Bruce StrallOn was the only rider in the
125cc Expert class not 10 fall in the muddy
fint moto. Flemin~ was consistent and came
across the line a distant second. Rob Nessel
was down in the first tum and worked h is
fifth by the fourth lap. With 'wo
way up
laps to go, he soon found himself in third
as Chad Brown and Greg Nelson went down
'ogether on a slippery uphill.
MOIO 'wo belonged to Brown, who led from
StaTl lOfinish. StrallOn started in midpack and
had a long way to go
catch Brown. By
halfway he was in second, about five seconds
beh ind Brown. On the last lap StrallOn and
Brown were righ' .oge ther and they finished
wheel to wheel with Brown the winner.
