Cycle Jam' 90 August 24,25,26 KTM 125 MX Both the MX and E/XC 125 models featu re reshaped gas tanks, beefed up frames where the rear su spension linkages attach, aluminum subframes, new and lighter rear wheel hubs, low-boy exhaust pipes, redesigned aluminum kickstarters and a new transmission breather system . T he combined seven 250 and 300cc models received a number of changes in th e motor department. Top-endwise both size motorcycles feature tworin g pistons, new exh a ust pipes , different porting specs, modification s to the Twin Val ve Control (T CV) exha ust power-valve system, beefed u p clutch and more breathing capacity, via a larger volume airbox an d filter. The ignition system on both the 250 an d 300 models have been redesigned to improve perfor mance at low rpm. As [or th e two big-bore two-strokes, the 500 MX and the 540 D/XC, th ey spo rt new cylinder porting, exhaust p ipes and modified coo ling and ignition systems. KTM 's only four-stroke mod el, th e 600 LC4, features some significant internal changes, such as a modified cylinder head, which KTM claims increases horsepo wer, a new ignition advan ce curve to help improve starting, revamped cooling circulation, and a five-speed close-ratio transmission. . New to the KTM off-road lineup is ' the 300 T IXC, whic h is basically the . same as the 300 E/XC except for engine modifications to make it pass EPA's strict 82 db noise requirements, thus ma kin g the T I X C off-highway- . c:l'I approved.
