Hicks hot at LACR Motocross
By T erry R ezek
PAI.MDAU , CA. JULY8
Eddie Hicks again dominated the Pro and
Intermediate even t a t the Cal ifornia Racing
Club 's (CRC) motocross a t Los Angeles
Count y Raceway. Hicks took the lead in both
motos as the gate fell and shut the door on
the other riders as he pull ed to an uncatchable
lead to win bo th motos.
Hi ck 's nearest co mpetitor was no t another
pro but 250cc Intermediate Terry Swanson,
a former pro. Swanson controlled the Intermediate ranks as surely as Hicks did the pros
and, in mota two , managed to get to within
five.seconds of Hicks at the checkered. In rno to
one, 125cc Intermediate leader To ny Barran ti
tried to get arou nd seco nd- place 250cc
Intermediate Todd Broussard and went down
hard.
With Barranti out for the day, ScouMurphy
inherited the lead. Back in the pack was je>se
James, who had fallen lO last on lap one.
J am es was on the edge as he began a
spectacular comeback. James stole the lead
and the rnot o from Murphy on the last lap.
Jam e> had the lead off the line in moto two
and led all the way lO the checkered and the
overall l25cc Intermediate win.
Bill Paul continued his rise through the
ra n ks with another 250cc Beginner win . Pa ul
did have a liule help in mota two from rival
C. T . Watanabe. With Paul leading from the
