stubborn Gary Roach for the fourth overall position. . Over the course of the last three laps, Summers would go on cruise control to p reserve his energy . Ior any unplanned situations. He almost got one when Lojak, having displaced McSwain on lap seven, made a late thrust for th e lead. Summers turned up the pace a notch to maintain his lead spo t and crossed the finish line 16 seconds ahead ' of Lojak. Conner moved around McSwain as well and took third overa ll, secon d 250cc A behind Loj ak. Next in class were Roach , Shephard and Dou g Blackwell. McSwain event ua lly fell comp letely out of contentio n with a fouled spa rk plug and would relinquish two more Open A positions in the process . Mark H yde accep ted the Open A class win after Summers was bu mped up into the overall pos ition in th e resu lts column. Georgia's Bryan Adams was next with McSwain and KTM rid er Charles Ro gerson and Greg Hold en follow ing. In the 200cc A class one of the tightest battles in quite some time developed between the lead trio of O nail, Jon es a nd Stan Loj ak. From the first lap on , the three 125cc machines brok e away from th e class contender . Dave Falias, Robert Torninel lo and Jeff La u th. Jones led much of the way but seemed to wear down la te in the race. That gave Onail , the defending class champion, a late shot at the top and he took it with the whi te flag . flying . O na il bea t Jo nes across the line by just 15 seconds wi th Lojak trailing by ju st eigh t more. The Four-Stroke A class saw Kentucky's Ha rvey Whitaker better Pennsylvan ia 's T racy Warrington in a two-way battle for th e win . On ce again the man -with all th e right moves in B class racin g was Ronald Palermo, wh o moved one step ' closer to th e br and new Yamaha motorcycle to be given away to th e top B rider of the series.
