" We mu sr've passed eac h ot her back a nd forth 15 times, a nd we were together a ll th e way in to th e fini sh , but Dan hit a tree a nd bobbled rig h t a t th e end, a nd that was it. " Roeseler was a head by 20 seco nds wh en he s p r i n ted in to take t h e chec kered £lag, and his second series wi n of the year p uts him ' 16 points' ah ead of Smi th in the race for the 1990 Cha mp io nsh ip titl e. " I' ve been rid ing injured and I've got one throwaway K 14 race , so we've go t eno ugh races left and I ca n ca tch him." " I had a good sta rt, but wit h no dust eve r ybo dy just we nt crazy ," said Roeseler. "There were so many people and th ey were a ll go ing wide open. I knew th ey weren 't going to last so I just followed them and let everybod y sort th emselves o u t." T he sorting out started rig ht after th e bomb, as th e course ran into a series o f large sand dunes. The dunes were a nightmare for the I25cc co m petitors and claimed victims in the 250 and 500cc divisions , as well.
