" I've had my ups and do wns all week," Buchanan said. "The track wasn't too bad unless you got real far to the outside." . Patrick Behrle won the first of five J unior hea ts with Brian T illson, Jaso n Fletcher, Bill Newkirk an d Speedy Kell also taking wins. Tillson's was th e fastest at 2:06.775 for the six laps an d wOl.I;ld put him on the pole for th e first semi. Tillson came high off tum four on the second lap to take the lead from Fletch er in the first semi and head off for the flag. Fletcher wou ld ho ld onto secon d with Dave Duhai me third and Jay Skidmore fourth. Newkirk took over the front spot on the fifth of six laps in the second semi holding off Speedy Kell for the win. Kris Kiser and David Reeves were third and fourth, respectively, the whole way. Conrad Parshall won the third semi going away. Steve North was second with Ken ny Dah lin third and Step hen Beattie the final rider into the main. Kell got the holeshot in the 15-rider ma in with Tillson second, Fletcher third, and Parshall fourth. On the fifth lap , Tillson snuck under Kell in tum three and was off to the checkered flag . By the time the race ended he had a straightaway lead. " All I had to do was twist the throttle," Tillson said. " I ran the same line all night; high or low, whatever I wanted." Kell held onto second despite being caught near the end by a group headed by Fletcher. " I wasn 't aware of the gu ys at the end, " Kell said. "M y prob lem was that my bike got kicked down twice."
