MAR. 4 Be 6 o n d a -m o u n ted Dan Ingram made easy work of the Expert portion of th e first race ever held on Ocala Speedway's new tra ck , Sunday. Then . two days later a t the ExpertiJ unior /Pro-Am event, Ingram was again in co m ma nd wit h a nother victory. On Su nday, at the Ex per t/junior event, the 43 Jun ior ri ders were placed into six scra tch heats wi th wi ns go ing to Kris Kiser, Lew Woods, Bri an Tillson, Al Eadie, Dal e Je n neman and Rick Anderson. ' Tillson. Kiser, Mik e Varnes and Conrad Parshall topped the regu lar J unior heats, and Speedy Kell and Clint Vah sho ltz topped th e semi s. At the start of th e Junior final Clint Vahshol tz sho t his Data-Tel/Tsubaki/ Ro ger Wardon / Vahsholtz Auto/ Shoei/ Ron Wood-sponsored WoodRotax o u t front of th e scra m ble for second. The Vans ho ltzes had spe nt th e night putting a new engine in , after blowing u p th e night before in Jacksonville. " We' ve got another bike, but we want to save it for the stadiu m. That's where the mo ney is," said a tired Vahsholtz. Kell kept his Harley in front of Hart Racing's Kiser all the way to th e finish line. Kell and Kiser mixed up in their o wn ba ttl e, were well behind Vahsholtz but comfortably ahead of Tillson, Steve Beattie and Jason Fletcher. The 24 Experts on hand were divided into four heats. Aaron H ill , Larry Pegram, Ingram and Steve Aseltine were the winners, while Day, Aaron Hill a nd ESP Racing/ H onda of Bloo m i ngt o n / S h o eil T s u ba k i / AXO / Ho~daline-sponsored Ingram won th e semis. The Expert main was decided earl y, as Ingram got the holeshot and held a perfect line the whole race . "Early in th e day th e track was real sli ck and we wer e having trou ble getting hooked u p. We go t it d ia led " and it started ge tti ng black (the in groove), it really started wor kin g. The blacker it got, the better it worked." Davis held hi s Harl ey in front of Pegram, Estep, Day and Poov ey. At the halfway point In gram held a commandi ng lead . Davis a nd Pegram had pulle d clear of Estep, Day and Poovey. Posi tions held unti l the last lap when Day made a run on Estep only to come off the gr oo ve and drop all th e way to seven th . H The checkers found Ingram first followed by Davis. Pegram, Estep, Aseltine, Hill. Day, Poovey, McDonnell , Roose, Hebb and Anderson. Ingram con tin ued hi s " spring training" for th e Daytona National Shott Track by taking a nother easy win at Ocal a two da ys later. on Tuesday, for the Expert/J u n ior/Pro -A m short track. Six J un io r scratch heats were needed to p lace the 44 Juniors into four regular hea ts. Those wins went to Kell, Eadie, Kiser , Fletch er. Paul Polhemus and Rob Majeski. Tillson ran away wi th the fir st Junior heat and Tony Donahue won, the second. Kiser nailed th e fastest of the Junior heats in race three with Kell taki ng the heat four victory. The first Junior semi changed dramatically when pole-sitter Kiser and Dave DuHaime were sent to the penalty li ne. Dale Jenneman got the start but was quickly put away by Kell. The two leaders moved away to a safe lead. The order mov ing to the main was Kell, J enneman, Daniele, Kiser, Brown and Eadie. The Junior main was red-nagged when Eadie fell in tum four. Everyone made the restart a nd Tillson "repeated h is holeshot over Fletcher , Kell , Kiser and Majeski. Bu t just after the halfway point. "T he groove just go t better and bett er." Tillson held off the hard charge of Kiser for second. Co nrad Mars hall led Vern Browne, Tom Dan iele. Tony Donahue, Dal e Jenneman and Steve Beattie home. " The 31 Pro -Am riders were di vided into five scratch heats, and Mik e Dillon. Kyl e L ong . L arry Davis, Robert Weiss and Pat Buchanon each earned wins. .Moving into the regular portion of the programs tha t would start eliminating riders, the fo ur Pro-Am heats were called to the lin e. Buchanon won the fastest heat with Robert Weiss. Mik e Butl er and Bret Beyer taki ng th e o ther three wins. Buchanan and Butl er di ced for first
