Road racer Rich Arnaiz, who rode a Team Motor Sport Yamaha to third place in the 1989 AMA National Championship Superbike Series, won the hour-and-ahalf scrambles event at the Lodi Cycle Bowl in Lodi, California, on December 10. Arnaiz, a former professional dirt tracker, lapped the entire field of 80 riders en route to the win . The race featured a heated battle - between Arnaiz and AMA 600cc Dirt Track National Champion Chris Carr before Carr pulled out of the race . The event was Arnaiz' first and only dirt track race of 1989. Golden Goggle award winner Josh Steel headed the list of over 50 riders who were sponsored by PowerMist. In add ition to Steel, Billy Schlag, Mike Brown, Joel Albrecht and Jeff Curry were among the Power-Mist supported riders who scored class wins in ,Elo rida. Every other Power-Mist supported rider placed in the top 10, according to Fales . APPOINTED: Sheryl Butt to the position of director, public affairs, of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF); Butt's responsibilities at Irvine, Cal ifornia-based MSF will include implementing media relations activities, helping to coordinate the 1990 International Motorcycle Safety Conference, and developing other promotional projects to increase the awareness of MSF programs; Butt holds a B.A. from California State University, Sacramento, and has been an avid motorcyclist since completing the MSF Motorcycle Rider Course in 1985. But the news is the duo will move up to the GP1 class, and will field a Honda Hawk with an RS750 dirt track engine.
