C A 10150 Na tional Motosport As s ociation Kawasaki Team Green riders Jeff Dement and Ezra Lusk had their support contracts terminated by Kawasaki following a racing incident at the November 23-26 Florida Winter Olympics. According to Team Green manager Mark Johnson, the two Min i Expert c lass riders have had an ongoing problem with knocking each other down in the heat of battle . After several warnings to the riders and their parents, Johnson said that the contracts were terminated "for numerous d isplays of un sportsmanlike conduct. Kawasaki was no longer interested in dealing with their problems and could no longer condone their actions." T eam Gree n has a complete lineup of riders that will be suppo rted in Natio na l com petition. The AMA re po rt s that t he Associatio n ach ieved record membership growth during 1989 and that members h ip n o w sta nds at 168,637. Membership increased 12.495 from November 1988 t o . November 1989, representing a n 8% increase. Th is performance continues a f ive-year trend of un interrupted growth, inc re as ing 26% since 1984. AMA President Ed Youngblood has attributed the Association's g rowth to three factors: 1) Better commun ication with current members and use of creative and more sophisticated marketing techniques to attract new members. 2) A growing awareness among motorcycle owners of the Association's effective work in government relations . 3 ) Greater cooperation within the motorcycle industry based on an improving awareness of the AMA's contribution to a healthier motorcycle market through the promotion of organized activity. The AMA has set a 1990 memb ership ~row t h goa l of 5%, amount ing to an Increase of 8400 to reach 177,000 memb ers by year end . According to reports from Austra-. Iia, the September 16 round ofthe World Championship Road Race Series scheduled for Eastern Creek in Australia may have lost a primary sponsor - Bond Brewing, makers of Swan beer. Instead of Kanemoto j o ini n g Gardner's team, however, the agreement will see Gardner making the switch to Kanemoto 's existing team. Thus, Stuart Shenton, Gardner's 1988 team manager will work for Japanese 250cc GP rider Masah iro Shim izu. Kenny Roberts' Yam aha GP team has yet to anno unce their planned swi tch from Dunlop to Michelin tires. but at a December 5 Dunlop press conference a Dunlop spo kesman confir med that Roberts' sq ua d would not be on Dunlops.
