NOV. 5 Suzuki-mo un ted Craig Flanders scored his first -ever CRClSCEC enduro o vera ll victory - as well as the 200cc A class win - with a 0.30 score a t the Go bbler Enduro at Teagle Wa sh . T he Fla nders Com pa ny-sponsored rider edged 200cc B rider Evan Cevene by just three seco nds a t th e tie-b reak er s. wh il e Yam ah a riders Rick Sow rna and Mike Ryan tied for th ird overall an d the Vet 250cc A cla ss win with 0.46 points apiece. Rou nding o u t the to p five. two seconds back of Sowma and Ryan . was Clint Diaz , who finished third in the Vel 250cc cla ss. Seuling into the sixth place position was th e 250cc A cla ss winner Kit Pa lmer , who squeaked ahead of the Open A class victor , H usky-mo u nted Jo rdan Chaney by seven seco nds, 0.61·0.68. Chaney had five seconds to spare over the seco nd Open A class rider Gary Dudley. ridi ng a Ho nda. The Gobbler Enduro featured three loops totaling app ro xi ma tely 75 mil es. The firs t loop featured an easy 2O-mile loop designed with the beginner enduro rider in mind. New SCEC rules sta te that a rid er ca n' t be pe nalized for being la te at any of the first- loop chec ks, bu t bums cou nt. This gives veteren SCEC end uro rid ers me .o p pro tu ni ty to introduce new ,riders to th e sport a nd ride wi th them to lea ch new comers ti mekeeping ski lls. wi thou t worryi ng abou t being late to m e chec ks. SCEC pla ns on using th is syste m ind efinitely. The seco nd 20-mil e loo p was slig h tlv more challeng ing, bu t all the top rid ers ma naged to zero the loo p . It was n't until the thi rd 35loo p where riders bega n dropping poi nts , altho ug h no t very ma ny d id. The first 30· m ph special lest in the th ird loo p cost most of the top rid ers at least one po int, wh ile the seco nd special test was easily zeroa ble for most of the AA, A and B rid ers. Farris led SIeve Burkholder , who set a no ther track record of 7.03, for th e entire 15-lap fin al. O th er classes had new win ners as well. Mike Hacker became th e fourt h differen t wi nner in the 80ec class. Kevin Varnes o u t-bumped Georgi e Pr ice to take th e 125cc class a nd Ch arles Majeski o nly led the fina l lap to cla im th e 360cc class win. Dan Reich ert easi ly o u td ista nced th e 250cc class to beco me its first repea t winner. Farris too k the lead from Burkh o lder. Lew Woods a nd Scott Saunders as the 250cc Pro class headed o u t of the second turn . After a lew laps, Farris had pulled a two-len gth lead, whi ch he held to the end, not giving Bur kholder a ny chance 01 trying to bump him in th e lat e goi ng . Rich Rowe led a closely-bu nched trio of Charles Majeski and Mark Burk ho lder as the 360cc class head ed ou t of turn two with Van Ri u enh ou sand Cla rence Bull a few len gths back.
