I Davidsonsponsored by HarleyCurry, of Sacramento and Friday night's main event win went to Seth Church (center) over Mark Hannah and Bart Bast (left). George Lazor (ri g ht ) f inished sixth. Hi-Point, went into the championship race with a perfect score and the pole position. Alongside in the first row were Seth Church and Steve Martin. Church was coming off a Friday night sweep, but had struggled early in the action. Martin never got rolling Friday night, but had it dia led in ' for championship night. . Starting in row two, Rick Webb, Jan Jensen and Mark Hannah were . just waiting for the leaders to make an error' on the slick ice. Church, George Lazer and Bart Bast bombed out in the first round of action, and only a quirk of draws allowed all three a chance to get back in it. In the last heat of round two, all fou r first-round winners came to the line, and on ly first and second p lace wou ld give them enough points to keep them in the hu nt. Curry won that heat with Martin a close second. After two rounds most of the riders had only three or four points. Friday night required six points to even think about the Last Chance Qua- l i fier. Saturday's action evened everyone out, and four points would get you a run at the LCQ and the final three spots. in the main. A run-off was needed between Church, Hannah and Webb for the last open spot in the main. Church took that win handily, with Webb and Hannah going to the LCQ. Lazer and Bast got new life in another run-off just to get into the LCQ. . Once again, Hannah did it the hard way and transferred to the main wit h Webb and Jensen. Lazer and Bast had traction problems' wit h the thin ice in turn three and fell out of co nte ntion. O n ly C urry and Martin made it in with out an extra race. T he lineup for th e final was set, and it was championship time. When the tapes flew up it really broke loose as all six riders were go ing for it.
