The plan was for Quarterley, a lready this year's co-cha m p ion , to join Kipp on th e Dutchman II ma chine in an effort to secu re second place in the season points standings. The plan appea rs to be working. Quarterley and Kipp wo n the threehour race a t Heartland Park Topeka, vaulting from eigh th to third in points, and Dutchman II now lies just one point sh y of the secondpl aced Ro ugh Stock Racing AllStars, 65 to 64. Tied with Dutchman II for th ird in p oints is Team Gibsonia /Englert Racing, whil e just another point back is T eam Motor Sport. It's lik el y to be a clo se fini sh. Dutchman II com p leted 93 laps of th e new 2.5-mile, I-t-turn H eartl and Park T opeka ci rcu it a t a n average spee d o f 77.226 mph to defeat th e AllSta rs ' John Ashmead a nd Doug Brauneck by a marg in of o ne minute, 37 seco nds, nearl y a r o m p lete lap. " We made a wrong decision on th e front tir e and we had to change it at the second sto p. It cos t us th e race," sa id Brauneck. Adding to th e All- Star s' troubl es was th e fact that for th e seco nd consecu tive ti me, they were docked a lap for passing under a waving yell ow flag. But unl ike the Sears Point race, here th ey were not a lo ne: n in e teams were pe na lized for the same in frac tio n, a ll occ ured in th e same location. The waving yellow was di splayed for 20 laps whi le o il was cleaned up after Stephen Matthews of th e Roswell H onda Racin g tea m , th e GTU lead er just sho rt o f the halfway po int, cras he d in right-hand turn fiv e, sp litt ing th e engine cases and dumping oi l o nto th e racing line. Joining the All-Stars in accruing o ne-la p pe na lties were Dutchman Ra cing, South Florida Ra cing, Lucky Dog Racing, T eam Boulder Yamaha, Just For Fun, T eam Fuzzy and R ice Burner; Insulate Industries and 3-D Racing were do cked two la ps. Natura lly, th e penalties wreaked havoc on the resul ts, but in the end, a number of th e penalized teams managed to finish well. Among them were Dutch ma n Ra cing's Harth, who tea med with Jacks and the returning-from- injury Kevin Rentzell to finish third, just one lap behind the leaders.
