NE WMAN, CA, J ULY 9 jon Nunez had a perfect day at H ill s Ferry Speedway as he handily wo n the firs t hea t race and was in the righ t positio n . wh en early leaders Rick Smi th a nd Eric La rso n fell , to win th e 500cc Expert class. At th e green light. an exce llent start by Kevin Cr owley o n h is Ro tax set th e ear ly pace. O n lap two both Larson and Smi th go t h y and tried to pull away from th e pack , but bo th misjudged the sli ppery hard o uts ide a nd had separate spi lls . Nunez. o n a Ro tax , was right there a nd took th e lead and held it to th e chec kers . Co mi ng up fast a nd cha lle nging for the last th ree laps was Daniel McDonnell . the seco nd hea t race winner. To make it a Ro tax sweep, th e th ird pl ace fin ish er was Randy Bererna n wh o had tai led Nunez acro ss th e line i n th e fir st heat race.
