At th e green light. an exce llent start by Kevin Cr owley o n h is Ro tax set th e ear ly pace. O n lap two both Larson and Smi th go t h y and tried to pull away from th e pack , but bo th misjudged the sli ppery hard o uts ide a nd had separate spi lls . Nunez. o n a Ro tax , was right there a nd took th e lead and held it to th e chec kers . Co mi ng up fast a nd cha lle nging for the last th ree laps was Daniel McDonnell . the seco nd hea t race winner. To make it a Ro tax sweep, th e th ird pl ace fin ish er was Randy Bererna n wh o had tai led Nunez acro ss th e line i n th e fir st heat race.
