The lhree Pro classes had abo ut 60 entries. with several riding in tw o or three cla sses. [n 250cc action, Kaslen , o n lhe S·K Cycle Yamaha led ear ly in the lirst hea l on lh e big hall·mile oval. SIeve Champine and Wagen· kn echt took o ver the top two spots in lap two. until Kaslen rallied 10 take th e lead a lew laps lal er. Kasten was then pushed back to third on lh e nexl 1 lasl lap by Champine and 0 Wagenkechl setting lh e finishing order. T ony Rulli was fourth. Kaslen again jumped 10 the lead in th e linal. Wag enkechl gOI a poor starl a nd was eighlh in lh e early going. He began picking up positions one and two at a time. passing Champine and Kasten [01 the lead . Rick Anderson fin ished forth. . Jim Sumner look th e first 500cc heal ahea d of Wagenkecht and Rick Anderson. Jon Dillenburg put hi s ShaWa no Well Drilling ROlaX in th e top spot in h ea l two over Dave Feggestad, Kasten and Dave Camlin o n th e Berger Ra cing Honda. In the final , Dill enburg look th e lead o n the th ird lap and o pe ned a safe margin o ver 'Su m ner and Kasten. Gruber wailed until th e fifth lap 10 mak e an inside mo ve 10 tak e the lead ahead o l Sumner and Camlin, Champin e loo k t he second hea l o ve r Ka sten a n d Dillenburg. Kasten got th e holesh ot in th e final, but was pa ssed by Ca m lin in turn three. Gruber also got by Kasten a nd set off after Camlin , catching him in turn th ree o n th e seven th lap.
