Scon Il*It 3. _ N_lS~ EMMETT,!D, MAY 7 Kawasaki-mounted Charlie Kouba triumphed at the Deserl Raiders' Bagdad Euro Scrambles al lhe Liltle Gem Cycle Park. Il was round three of the 1989 Southwesl Idaho Desert Racing Series. The hoped-for rain didn'l malerializr and Kouba bad his work CUI OUl for him, as Cun Dice and SIeve Moore jelled inLO the Pro class lead, leaving Kouba back in the dusL Moore look over the lead al the end of a secuon of whoops 10 put Dice in second. Kouba worked his way through the pack and caught up 10 Dice and Moore. One secuon of the sevenmile course had lWO paths and Moore and Kouba look one way, while Dice took another; leaving Dice in third. On the third lap of the hour-long race, Dice oUlpowered Moore going up a Sleep hill and sel off 10 pursue Kouba. In the final laps of the race Dice rode hard LO catch Kouba, bUl was unable lo make up time on the rough, dry and slick course. Brenl Fox lurned a clean holeshol inlO a tremendous lead over Tony Murkle and Bill Walsh in the Open Expert cJass. Fox looked lo have il won bUl swapped OUl of control down the tremendous hill leading LO the pits and bailed. Murkle look the lead and captured the win, wilh Fox remounting lO take second over Honda-pilot Bill Walsh. Round three of the 17th Annual Texas Series was held al Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch with more than 300 riders in auendance, and Honda-mounted Steve Olson look LOp honors in the Mini Stock and Expert c:Jasses. Olson powered his way around the track in the lead m all four 1I1OtOS, for perfect 1-1 finishes. In the Mini Slock class Honda rider Chris Blume went 3-2 for second overall and Kawasaki rider Clinl Latham wenl 2-3 for third overall. Second place in the Mini Expert class wenl lO Kawasaki rider Tommy Lee. The Teeny Mini class rode four laps on .the entire track with a few spills and some help'lIg hands from moms and dads. lac Slaler powered his Yamaha LO 2-1 finishes for firsl overall and Travis Elliou went 1-2 for second overall. Third place wenl LO Javier Villarreal with a 3-3 Slanding. . The Over 30 Novice class saw Yamaha nder John Milchell take the overall win with II finishes. The start of molo one broughl Milchell OUl front and he held lhal lead the entire molO. Kawasaki-mounted Ron Nelson finished second. Ron Price worked his way up from a seventh-place Starl lO finish third. MOIO lwO saw Honda rider Jim Barnes take the lead followed by Mitchell. By the second lap Mitchell had gained the number one position and look the checkered flag firsL Honda rider Ronnie Welch passed Barnes on the third lap LO gain second Al the finish il was Mitchell, Welch and Barnes.
