Get It In gear••. see the Honda-mounted McKenna came from behind to finish second. who had just recovered from a broken neck, finished lap four in second behind Roeseler, but bailed and injured his shoulder. Roeseler passed Dowell and Searle on lap four and held the lead position to the checkers. The Team Green ace, who thanked Malcolm Smith, Scott, Pro Circuit, Dunlop, Trick Racing Fuel, Bel-Ray, Tsubaki, CTi knee brace, Acerbis, and NGK for their support, was the only rider to complete seven laps, a total of 161 miles. "They (WSRA) did a really good job of mixing the course sections," said Roeseler. "You can't pass in some of the tight canyons; it is single file. But, later the course opens up and you can get going, again, on two-track roads. It was by far the best track; and to top if oil, the weather made it that much better." Although Dowell rode in the runner-up position from lap five to the finish, McKenna had made up enough time to claim second overall by about 30 seconds. "I had fun," said McKenna, who thanked Torco, Sinisalo, Arai, Scott, and Carmichael Honda for their suppor·t. "I've never seen the desert like this before. It was like three different race tracks." Dowell agreed, "One part of the course was under hail, another part sunny, and the other part rainy." As with the race between Dowell and McKenna, Grossi followed Cullins past the checkers, but placed fourth ahead of Cullins on elapsed time. One of the more interesting notes of the day was the fact that all of the top five riders were over 30 years of age. Roeseler and Dowell took first and second in the 250cc A class. McKenna, Grossi and Cullins placed first through third in the Veteran A class. Although the Veteran class tore up the course on Saturday, it was 15year-old Dan Reger that tore it up Sunday. Reger was the unofficial victor over Kawasaki pilot Jerty Wood and Honda rider Casey Holt. Reger claimed the Open C class victory. Wood topped the Veteran C class. • The Western States Racing Association thanks the Marin County Motorcycle Association for its efforts in tabulating the unofficial results. WSRA also thanked Virginia City for its support of the race and invites everyone to come race their 20th Annual Virginia City Grand Prix in 1990. • Results 0/A A: 1. Larry Roeseler (Kaw); 2.
