KO's vintage Road Atlanta By Brian Catterson BRASELTON, GA, MAY 7 Team Obsolete's Dave Roper and Pat Moroney were the big winners at the second round of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) Historic Cup Road Race Series held at scenic Road Atlanta. The duo of talented New Yorkers took first-place honors in three classes, with Roper taking wins in both the Premier 500' and 350cc Grand Prix categories and Moroney topping 750 GP. Moroney won the first race, but he didn't have it easy as he had to contend with the advances of Kurt Liebmann. Liebmann, a road racing veteran riding a Honda CR750, was making his return to racing after a brief layoff, and twice led Moroney across the stripe. In the end, however, it was Moroney's Harley-Davidson XR750 that took the checkered flag first. In the same race, Ted Hubbard took the 500cc Sportsman class win on his BSA B50, while Kevin Roberson topped the Two-Stroke GP class on his Yamaha TR2B and Mike Ragan won the 200cc GP class on his Yamaha CS7. The second race saw Dallas, Texas' Keith Martin take the overall and 750cc Sportsman class wins on his Triumph T120, while Roper finished second overall to take the 350cc GP class win on his AJS 7R. Norman Nelson won the Class C division on his Norton Manx. Texas' Rob Tuluie, the 750cc Sportsman class Champion, crashed his Norton Commando unhurt on the second lap while challenging for the lead. The third and final race saw Roper take the overaJI and Premier 500 class wins on his Matchless G50. Pennsylvania's Pete Johnson finished second on his Honda CR450, while his close friend Liebmann took third on a 500cc overhead cam BMW Rennsport. Tom Keyes won the 350cc GP class on his Ducati MK3, while race organizer and technical inspector Beno Rodi won the Pre-1940 class on his Norton Manx. • Results 750 GP: 1. Pat Moroney (H-O); 2.
