was up quickly but rode only one more lap before dropping out. Hale moved from fourth to second with Snoop maintaining third. Working his way up from a penalty line start was Tresser as he settled into fourth. Pro-Am Twen ty-seven Pro-Am riders signed up and were placed into three heats. Heat wins went to cott Sehl and Mike Varnes, while Daytona' winner Conrad Parshall took the last heatThe Pro-Am final was all Parshall's on his Fruchey Auto Body/ Mad Man Deewey/Family Racing Harley-Davidson. Sehl held down second while Mike Eadie moved up for third. Kyle Long overcame a slow start to capture fourth. Main The stage was set for the National and veteran Poovey had first pick of starting positions. Graybeal, Hebb, Kiser, Davis, Atherton, Stump, Kirk, Farris, Scherb, Ingram, Rick Gruber, Brow, Tresser and Aseltine followed. Davis read the start perfectly and led lap one over Hebb, Poovey, Kiser, Graybeal and Stump as the entire field was bunched together. Graybeal moved to second then first on lap three. "Last year we had the traction and everyone else was slipping. This year we were doing the slipping," said last year's winner Davis. Graybeal was holding a solid lead as :((.iser knifed his way to the front and slowly reeled Graybeal in. Poovey was also moving up, dropping Davis to fourth. . At the halfway mark it was obvious Kiser was catching Graybeal with Poovey making his ,presence ·felt from third. Hebb worked his way around Davis on lap 15 while Graybeal, Kiser and Poovey bunched together at the point. Poovey made a couple runs at Kiser but couldn't work by. Kiser kept the pressure on Graybeal and finally took over for good on lap 19. It started Graybeal's slide that would see him finish fourth. "It just went away," explained Graybeal pointin~ to his rear tire. "I've never made It out of the heats here before. We're really satisfied." Poovey worked his way around Graybeal but couldn't close on Kiser as his Harley had a broken rocker. Hebb took third on lap 23 and the final order appeared set, but Hebb made a late charge that carried him past Poovey into second on the last lap. Kiser had ridden a controlled race but as the end neared the pressure and excitement were mounting. On lap 23 he almost hit the wall exiting tum four but quickly recovered.. "I found a good line up high, but I just ran it into three too hard and it pushed me up too high corning out," explained Hawaii's fastest fiat tracker. "I was afraid I was going - to lose my tire or something would happen to my bike." e Don't miss 1111 the exciting upercross events coming to your lI,ell soon. ·'THE BEST OF SUPERCROSS!"
