Kris Kiser powered his Rotax from a fourth-place start to win the National main and also posted the win in the Junior main. Terry Poovey rode his ailing Harley-Davidson to third and was the victim of Dave Hebb's late-race charge to second. Semis Erik Graybeal (39) takes the lead from Will Davis (21) early in the main. Graybeal slid to fourth at the finish. Farris was second at 19.02&. Erik Graybeal (19.054), Kiser (19.131), Rick Gruber (19.132) and Will Davis (19.159) garnered the remaining pole positions for the six heats. Heats Poovey shot into the lead of heat one ahead of Aseltine, Gary Davis and Scott Stump. Aseltine and Stump moved into second and third as Poovey disappeared into the distance. Stump had a narrow advantage until lap eight as Aseltine faded, eventually having to hold off Mark Gruber for third. Poovey and Stump were headed to the National with the fastest heat of the day. J&M Racing, Polo, IL/Nolan/ Moto Promo/Canton Automotive/ Hog Wash/Mom & Dad-sponsored Dave Hebb led heat two all the way. Rodney Farris and Ceo Roeder were locked in a battle for second. Farris finally earned a little breathing room on the last lap as Roeder carne home far ahead of David Uoyd. The third heat was dominated by Graybeal as the Bell/D.C. Cycle/ Oury/Diamond/Kal-Gard/Gear Sprocket Spec/WD-40/Ron Wood! Dave Bird-sponsored rider pulled far ahead. But the crowd's interest was for second place as Tammy Kirk and Garth Brow dueled for the position. From the pole position Kiser went in front of heat four. It became a race for second between Scott Scherb, Don Estep, Charlie Orr and Mike McDonnell. As Kiser pulled away everyoJ;le settled into their positions and there were no more changes. Kevin Atherton put iri a fine ride to take heat five. The last heat was all Shoei/Live Wire Electric/Cox H-D/Tex Peel/ Diamond-sponsored Davis' as he easily won over Sponseller Racing's Dan Ingram. Aseltine sat on the pole for semi one, and Garth Brow, Ceo Roeder, Brian Bonesteel, Jon Cornwell and Steve Morehead were among the 12 riders shooting for one qualifying spot. Bonesteel came from the fifth starting spot to the lead over Brow, As.eltine, Roeder and Mark Gruber. By the halfway point Bonesteel's Wood-Rotax was slowing and Brow established his Front Farm Service/ Bel-Ra y/ Arai/Fox/Megacycle/ Wi eco-sponsored Harley-Davidson into a solid first. Aseltine was struggling in second and couldn't pull any of his Daytona magic. "Riding this track is similar in style to Daytona but we're down on ponies," explained Aseltine. "I can gain going into the turns but just can't accelerate with them." Brow easily won with Aseltine, Roeder, Junior A.j. Snoop, Morehead and Gruber headed to the Last Chance Qualifier. The second semi was an outstanding race as David Miller carne from the sixth starting slot to lead over Don Estep, Charlie Orr, Andy Tresser and Mike Hale. The race was red-flagged on lap two as Hale and Danny Angel bailed off between turns three and four. Mike Reid slid down avoiding the fallen riders. The race was completely restarted with Reid, who was unable to make repairs in time, the only rider not restarting. Miller again got the holeshot, this time over Orr, Willie McCoy, Mike McDonnell and Andy Tresser. At the halfway point Miller and Orr were locked into a tight battle and they exchanged the lead several times. However it was Junior rider Andy Tresser moving his ABC Body Shop/ Woods Racing/Grove Machine/ ArailSportz FuellKendall OillYoko Racewear/HRD Horsepowersponsored Wood-Rotax to the win. Orr led Miller, Estep, Robert Lewis and McCoy into the Last Chance. Last Chance Qualifier Aseltine quickly established a lead on his Cougar Gulch Distilling/ Idaho Gold/Idaho Silver/Bell/ BBRP /Ts ubaki/CastrollN emo PlateslTeam DeeleylTeam Panther Harley. The race was for second with Junior Snoop holding Roeder off, as Robert Lewis passed Orr on the last lap for fourth. Junior Main The 10 lap Junior main was held for the fastest 12 Juniors in time trials.
