Dunn devastates Glen Helen GSN finale By Ken 'Fa ug ht SAN BERNARDINO, CA , FEB. 26 After eight weeks of traveling around the state of California, Joshua Dunn went home a big ,win ner after sweeping the 125 and 250cc Junior classes in the ~M C/Dodge Truck Golden Sta te Na tionals' fi I GI I 0 ma e at en H e en HV Park. Dunn wrap ped up the pair of championships after 24 winnin g three o u t of four rnotos du r i n g the fi n a l ro un d o f co mpetition . In di visi oI? t':"o ofthe 125cc J u n!or. class Dunn fin ished the day out WIth a 1-2 moto ta lly to claim the win ahead of Billy Fel ts, Kevin Geyer, Jimmy Weitzel and Ray McIntosh. Du n n 's score was good enough to earn h im the first of two series cha mpionshi ps ahead of Kevin Geyer, Derek Meyer a nd McIntosh. J on Kuebl er was fifth . Dunn ' s se cond champi onship victory ca rne a fter running away fi with both m ot es of th e 250C Junior Divi sion Two cla ss. Dunn topped Rob ert Drew in each moto to claim the overall ahead of th e Yamaha rider. John R ickel was third with a 3-6 score in front of Geyer 's 8-3 and Jaime Knox's 6-5. The perfect score added up with th e rest of Dunn 's previous fin ish es gave him a grand to tal o f 345 points. Geyer was th e runner-up with 326 points with Drew, David Zahrt and McIntosh rounding out th e top five. Buddy Antunez, J on Mill er and Rob ert Fortier were th e on ly three riders to claim series cha m p ionsh ip victories wi th a perfect 369 poi n ts. The three riders claimed the wins in the 80cc Expert, Vet Master and Old Timer Intermediate classes , respectively. , Honda-mounted Jimmy Button survived a potentially devastating > first turn crash to win d ivision two of th e 125cc In term ed ia te class. Bu tton went down hard in the first moto but quickly forced h is way through the p ack to earn the moto win a head of Ra y Crumb, Bubba Erickson, Ryan Carlisle and R ich ard Saxton. Button returned in the second round of a ction to a g a i n blitz through th e pack. Button's second ' m o to performance earned him a seri es ch ampionship, on ly II points ah ead of Crumb's 33 1 po ints. Erickson was third with 315, topping Trevor M ea~her's 311 point score and Dana WIggins' 299. . After placing seco nd in last year's Golden State N ati onal s behind Leonard Kilman, Dave Shoemaker returned to dominate the 500cc Beginner cl ass. Shoemaker won more overa ll wins th an anyone in the class, including the overall in the final round at Gl en Helen. Shoem a ke r to ok a 1-2 score to the winner 's circle and a series ch a m pionship. Jim Abshire finished in second, 18 points behind Shoemaker. Deren Kozenko was a di stant third in th e points. , Kawasaki-mounted Jason P a rtridge wrapped u p series cha m p ion ships in two classes. Partridge ea rned the titles in the60cc 9-11 year-old class and the 80cc O p en cl a ss. However, Part rid ge's wins weren't that easy . Partr idge won the first 60cc class mo to ahead of Zachary R und, but fin ished runner-up to Rund in the final moto. R u nd 's solid second mo to performan ce u ndoubtedl y gave h im the day's overall but only earned h im second in th e series. Part ri dge claimed the series win
