BARSTOW, CA, FEB. 12 ., T h e Ventura County. Motorcycle Club (VCMC), headed by thud overa ll individual finisher Scott Cra wford , ca ptur ed the overall victory a t the Southern Cali fornia Enduro Club (SCEC) Candy Ass/Team Ch allenge Enduro, held jus t a few mil es sou th of Ba rs to w . · 72 Co unting the team 's best eig h t individua l enduro firiishes, as well as the day's final MX specia l test scores, the VCMC team tallied the lowest points score of the day for the overa ll win. The VCMC team edged out the Barbenders West (BBW) team by five poi nts, 27-32. Howeve r, the Barben ders West team had the ho nor of havi ng the top two overall individual riders of the day - Tony Riclcard and Steve Williams. R ickard , who also wo n last month 's Frosty Ca ctus Enduro in Lucerne Vall ey , a n d Williams both dropped three points duri ng the two-loop end uro, but Riclcard locked up the overa ll by edging Will iam s by 19 seconds . at the com bined four 'tie-brea ker checks. Riclcard also clai med the 200cc AA class win , whi le Williams top ped the Vel Open AA class. Third overall finisher, Cra wford captured the 250cc AA class victory. Rounding out the top five were Vet Open AA rider J oh n Ferro and first Vel Open A rider T im Beall. T wo special test sections were featured in each approxima tely S5-mi le loops and it was the firs t special test in each loop which took points away from the leaders. Both Riclcard a nd Will iams drop ped one point a t the first specia l test, wh ile both drop ped two points ear ly in the second loop. But Rickard had the better tie-breaker scores. In fact, the first 10 overall riders dropped three points each. From ' fifth pla ce to 10th place, those riders were Beall (VCMC), Ken Syrner, Dave Lambert (BBW), Jr., J ason Ingersoll (BBW.), Will ie Kennedy (BBW) and Robert Wran osky. The next II riders had scores of four. Lcx>p o ne hon or s went to Beg inner ri de r Da vid Smi th who piloted his Suzuki to the overall win with a score of 1.226. H e was follo wed by the second- and th ird-placed Beginners All en Morris and Richard Ross. Mall Freeman fin ished fourth with the 200cc C- 16 class win .
