McG rath once aga in bolted out of the gate first in ro und two to ca p ture the lead , but it was short-lived as Young quickl y passed him. McGrath wa s qui ckl y cha lle n ge d for h is position by a numb er of riders including Takacs, Pete Pia n ta n rda and Menning. By the end of th e seco nd lap all those riders had passed McGrath, dropping him to sixth, while Grider was dealing with a dreadful start and by lap three was up from 18th to seven th. Youn g cont in ued to hold th e lead a nd things began to settle do wn w i th th e top five riders, T akacs in seco nd foll owed by Pi antanrda, Menning and Grider, spreading th em selves ou t and main taining th eir pos itio ns to th e end of th e mo to. Wh en th e gat e fell for th e first mota of the 250cc Junior Divi sion One class Kawasaki ri der Mik e Li ttl e nail ed the holesh ot a nd began to move a way until being reeled in and passed by J ohn Harris. H arris then returned th e lead back to Little, who too k com mand a nd pu lled a way once ' agai n. Da vid Smith moved in to second and was tra iled by Allen. Near th e end of lap two Little swapped harshl y a nd went off the tra ck, bu t saved a cras h and still ma naged to co ntrol the lead. Things stayed th e sa me with Li ttle in the lead for the rest of the race' as Smith inc hed his way closer bu t was never a th reat. A few turns behind was Allen followed by Cren shaw, John Ri ckel and Alex Ch ell en . At the start of ro u nd two Brad Heth eri ozton jammed into the early lead foll owed by Alle n, Cren shaw, Ch ellen. H arris and Tom Barry. Near the end of th e seco nd lap Allen was ·ma king a bid for th e lead, hounding a fading H etheri ozton. The two riders tra iled o ne a no the r for another lap before disappearing from everyone's sigh t in th e back sectio n. Wh en th e pack came out, Hetheriozton a nd Allen didn 't. The new leader was Crenshaw followed by Berry and Smith. All en finally appeared with a substant ial gap on Hetheriozton. As th e race -wo u n d down the positions rem ained th e sa me and • .
