Slate hot at MOnUoseMX By Hurley & Dot Short RAEFORD, NC, JAN. 15 Mor e than 200 riders showed up for the second race o f th e Wimer Series at Montrose SEMX, and in the Seni or Mini cla ss, Patrick Greer was the overa ll winner. Greer , on h is Kawasaki, took command of me fir st moto. He was wa y out front as Tres Bru ce. Kevin Crine and Kevin Simpson lo llowed. Ta kin g the checkered nag was Greer. Bru ce, Cr ine, Simpson and jason Baldwin . In the seco nd moio, G reer shot out Iront again followed by Cri ne, David Martin and Kevin Si m pso n. Martin took a lall and lost a lot o f ground as Greer - sta yed out front, foll owed by Sim pson, Bru ce, Billy Charles and Crine. Overall went to Greer , Bruce. Simpson. Crine and Charles. Wes Cave took th e holesbor in th e firstl25cc Novia: moto. H e wa s foll owed by Shannon Stewart, Sa m Mitchner, David Hill and Chuck Green. Mit chner took over o n th e first lap wit h David Hill, Green a nd Cave lollowing. Wh en G reen went down, Cave look over third place, then worked u p to seco nd. Cave was putting a mov e on Mit chner . but look a fall as they a p p roa ch ed the linish line. Mitchner took th e nag lim. In th e seco nd moto, Ca ve look the holes hot again as Dav id Hill lollowed dose behind. Cave ex tended his lead. lollowed by Bengie Rutledge and Dal e Hill. Cave took a bad lall and Rutledge took over the lead. H e was lollowed across 'he finish lin e by David Hill, Sa m Mit chner , Chuck Green a nd T on y McGuire. In th e 125cc Amateur class, Patrick Slate took 'he hol eshot, lollowed by Chris Lykens , Dan Mauro a nd Craig Barbouro. On th e first lap , the o rder was L ykens, Ellis and Slat~. Lyken s held th e lead as Slat e a nd EI.hs jock eyed back a nd forth for second and thtrd po siu on s. Once Slate regai ned the lead. he held o n with a co ns iderable lead over Lyk en s and Ellis . Ronnie Yarbro clung to fourth. Sla te finished first , Ellis, Yarbro and Kent Roger son followed. In th e second moto, Lykens took th e hol esh ot followed by Mall Hendrix, Ellis and Slate. Wh en Lykens took a spill, Slate too k over as Ellis went to sc:cond and Yarbro moved to third. Overall went to Slate, Ellis, Yarbro, Craig Barbour and Hendrix. In the 250cc Amateur class, Chris Lykens took th e holeshot followed by Kevin Bowles, Vin cent Brown and Mark jennin~. Bowles moved firs' a nd Tommy Lindvllle moved to second. Bowles, Lindvtlle, Rick Sanders and Steve Simmons too k th e checkered flag in that order. In the seco nd moto. Bow les took the ho lesh otlnllowed by Mark j en n ings and Steve Simmons.
