Mike Healey (38) and Scott Brown (6 6 ) pursued Brian Manley (29) in the first 500cc Pro class moto. Manley swept both motos for the overall. 10 high-sided. Thisis a warm-up race for me and I am taking- it as that, Next week ' s supercross is what coun ts." Stanton was founh at the finish ahead of Bayl e and O 'Mara. McGrath was the first non-factory rid er, fin ish ing seventh. , The fina l round saw Lechien jump the gate and lead Bradshaw, Bayle, O 'Mara, Stanton and Ward around the first tum. Lechien's early exit immediately got him docked a lap, and as the pack exited the first tum a few riders, including Johnson, were on the ground. _ "I was about 10th at the start," said Johnson, : 'Larry Brooks was right in front of me, and I hit his bike and it threw me over the bars. A few people hit me and it kind of dazed me a little bit. Someone ran into my butt and it charlie-horsed my leg; I couldn' t stand up. My knee' s okay but I broke my knee brace , it was a good thing that I had it on." Up front Bradshaw wasted no time and challenged Lechien for first, As the pair came around the tum where Bradshaw stuffed Lech ien in the first moto, Lechien drastically slowed down and looked back at Bradshaw. Bradshaw also slowed down and ap peared to be wondering wha t Lech ien might have in store. However, Lech ien slo wly turned his head around and con tinued to hold Bradshaw at bay. Back in the pa ck Bayle dropped out of the race whil e Stanton worked his way in to th ird ah ead of O'Mara and Ward. Ward soo n cha nged all of that as he forced his way around the Suzuki rider and set his sigh ts on Bradshaw. Ward' s fast pace soon pushed Stan ton up to the leaders wh ich crea ted a good four-way ba ttle for the lead. Bradshaw and Stanton managed to drop Lechi en to third and then Stanton pass ed Bradshaw for the lead. Shortly after takin g over first, Stanton threw it awa y in the fin ish lin e comer, returning the lead to Bradshaw over Ward. Stanton got up in third ah ead of Lech ien and Ronnie Tichenor. T he last few laps saw Ward wage a full assault aga inst Bradshaw. The ' two riders battled side-by-side before Ward managed to gain the upper hand on the last lap. Ward soon turned his lead into a well-eamed ' win over Bradshaw, Stanton, O'Mara and T ichenor. Matiasevich's win in the 125cc Pro class was much easier than Ward 's victory. At the stan of the first moto the Kawasaki/Fox Racing/Bel -Ray/ Acerbis/NGK/Renthal/Dunlopsponsored rider gated sixth behind , Rodney Smith, A.J. Whiting, Ray Sornrno, Jimmy Gaddis and Donny Schmit. Mike Kiedrowski , the winner of the previous round, was stuck in the first comer after tangling with another rider. The crash ripped off Kiedrowski's silencer and forced his mechanic back to the pits for some parts. Matiasevich quickly forced his way toward the front and by the second lap was fourth as Whiting fell back to sixth, then soon picked up two more positions as he shot by Gaddis and Sommo for the runnerup position. Matiasevich's stay in ,second was short as he quickly took the lead from Smith. Schmit was also on the move. Near the halfway point he had moved into third behind Sm ith and on the seventh lap th e Pro-Circu it /Fox Ra cing/BieHe H elmets/Sco tt spo nsored rider managed to sneak around Smith and challenge for the lead. Schm it 's attack forced Matiasevich to pick up hi s pace as the two started to battle, bu t it soon en ded as Matiasevich managed to p ull away and gain a three-second lead. At the checkers Matiasevich collected the win over Schmit, Whi ting and Gaddis. KTM 's Mike Healey worked his way to fifth. Micheal Crai~' wh o DNF the first moto after being tak en out, led Matiasevich, Healey, Schmit and Smith around the course at the start of the second moto. T he top two immediately started to pull away as Healey swapped off on lap fou r, allowing Schmit third over Smith and Gaddis. , " I went off a jump," said Healey, "and landed real hard. Right after I came down I hi t a big hol e and my suspe nsion was already used up. The bike just kicked me up ' and I went over the bars. " As Healey slowly got up nearly a lap down, Gaddis passed Smith for fourth. Smith sai d he had been suffering from the flu the en tire week and it appeared to be taking it's toll. Up front Matiasevich reall y began app lying the pressure to Craig. The two riders 'ba tt led handlebar-tohandlebar with Matiasevich eventuall y gaining the lead. Craig managed to hang with the Kawasaki rider for three laps, but Matiasevi ch 's pace was just too fast, While much of the attention was being focu sed on the battle for first, Kiedrowski was working his way through the pack for the second rime of the da y. The Honda rider started near 30th and worked his way into the top 10 near the halfway point, and th e last few laps saw him battling with Ray Sommo and Gaddis for fourth. The battle came to an end as Kiedrowski stormed past Gaddis for fourth before the checkers . Matiasevich took the win ahead of Craig, Schmit, Kiedrowski and Gaddis. Sommo was sixth. Matiasevich's perfect score earned him the overall win. Schmit was second with a 2-3 tally over Gaddis' 4-5 and Sommo's 7-6. Mike Young was fifth with 6-9 score. Brian Manley's win in the 500cc' Pro class was almost picture perfect. , In the first moto the Team Green Kawasaki/Malcolm Smith/Pro Circuit/Pro-Tee/ Dallas Baker P ro ducts /Scott/Dunlop-sponsored Manley led Scott Brown, Greg Zitterkopf, Jeff Hicks and Eddie Hicks from stan to finish as he ran away with the win. Mike Healey started off third, but a crash in a whoop section put the KTM rider out of con tention and he finished ninth. Ron Turner led Derek Brown, Robin Johlman'leH Hicks and Eddi e Hicks aroun the first tum at the star t of moto two. Manley was back in lOth but immediately gained a few positions within the first three turns. As the pack came around to comp lete lap on e Turner was sti ll out fro nt wi th Derek Brown seco n d ahead of Jeff Hicks and Scott Brown. Eddie Hicks had crashed in a sweeping tum and was having problems getting his big-bore KTM started. Manley continued hi s charge and worked his way into the lead on the second lap and never looked back. Scott Brown, J eff H iCks and Zitterkopf started to go at it for second and the three rid ers swap ped positio ns several times before Brown . Iinally managed to hold on to the posi tion. Manley went on to take the easy win a few seconds ahead of Brown , H icks , Ziuerkopf a n d Turner. Man ley claimed the overa ll win wi th Brown, J eff Hi cks, Zitterkopf and Turner completing th e top five. Brown's runner-up position allowed him to take over the series poin ts lead in the 500cc Pro class where he leads Jeff Hicks 219 to 206. In the 80cc Expert class Buddy Antunez claimed his third straight win to further his series point lead. In the first moto the R&D Suzuki! Fox Racing/ScottiShoei/Maximai Troy Lee-sponsored rider gated third but fought his way into the lead within a minute. Antunez set a bli stering pace and produced lap times that were only a second slower than Matiasavich's winning times in the 125cc Pro class. Antunez stretched out his lead and greeted the checkered flag ahead of Joel Albrecht, Tommy Clowers, Damon Huffman and Spud Walters. Round two agai n saw Antunez gate third and work his way into the lead on the first lap. Albrecht ran up front for a short time before falling back to 12th.
