On th e first lap Lamson a nd Young dropped ou t of th e top five as O 'Mara and Bradshaw worked th eir way past McG rath for third and fourth. McGrath was fifth. As Ward began working o n Lechien , J ohnson and J ean-Michel Bayle moved up to sixth and seventh. The two Honda riders battled intensely for two laps before Bayle went down ahead of J ohnson and dr opped to lOth. While Bayle tried to make up for his mistake Staton was also p ick ing u p p osi tions. Near the fourth lap St a nton m ov ed into . se venth a few seconds beh ind Johnson. . Up front th e battle for first heated up between Lechien and Ward. Ward had moved in on Lechien's rear fender and began challenging for the lead. On th e fourth lap Ward found what he was looking for and shot past his teammate. "My boot lace got caught in the rear dISC brake system, " said Lechien, "and 1 was having a hard time riding. Ward was on my tail and he just got by." Back in th e pack Bradshaw picked up th e pace and began working on O 'Mara for th ird. Bradshaw quickly caught th e Suzuki rider and then sent him back to fourth. Johnson was also playing catch-up and worked his way around McGrath for fifth. Back up front Bradshaw managed to reel in th e ailing Lechien and challenge th e Kawasaki rider for second. T he two swapped positions twi ce before Bradshaw stuffed Lech ien in a tum, causing Lechien to go do wn . Wh ile Lechien struggled to get up, O 'Mara, Johnson and Stanton too k co m m and of th ird through fifth. The fin al few laps saw Johnson pu t on an incredible char~e and pass O 'Mara , and th en move 10 right on Bradshaw 's tail. On th e fin al lap Johnson pushed the young Yamaha rider hoping for a m istake. Shortly after Ward took th e win, Bradshaw and Johnson started banging bars. The battle ended at the finish as Johnson ran into th e back of Bradshaw's bike, causing Johnson to go down in third after the checkers. " H e (Bradshaw) kept jumping into my lane, " said Johnson. " I was going to pass him on the last lap and he cut me off. 1 didnr't th ink it was a good move. 1 figured if he wants to play rough then I'm going to try to put him out in the finish line tum. 1 tried to get across the finish line first, but my wheel jumped down into the grove and 1 ....------------------------------------------------l/EI/IE ORDER NOW FOR BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE!
