Maeda was fourth in the two-stroke class. Jay Theys (9 ) holeshots w inner Paul Ito (57 PI, Shawn O'Brien (31 B) and Corey Austin (24E) in division one of the 80cc Beginner class. at Ascot Park. Turner's only loss came in the second 250cc T' • moto as ':' illie Surratt came out of reurernent to take the mo to win. However, Surratt's poor eigh th place finish in mo to one allowed TUrner's 1-2 sco re to tak e th e overa ll win. In th e first moto Pete Murray and Gar y Sailors managed to displace Crai g Hofmeist er for seco nd and third with CMC so u the rn California number o ne plate holder Dan Berg taking fift h at th e checkers. • Ro u nd two was a different story as Berg gated fifth , but quickly forced his wa y into second beh ind Turner wh ere he fini shed ahead of Tim Lunde, Murray and Sailors. Turner 's pair of perfect rides netted th e overall win with Murray's 2-4 ea rn ing th e runner-up position. Berg, Sailor and Lunde com p leted th e top five. Vet Pro class act ion ag ain saw Turner lead .every lap to easily take both mot o wms ahead o f Lunde. Carl Gazafy's seco nd mo to third-place fin ish was good eno ugh to boost him to third o vera ll, dropping Ri ck John son to fourth o ver Bobb y Tippit. Turner 's final victor y of the night ca me in the 250cc class wh ere the Honda rider beat Bob Klin e, Kenny Zahrt, Berg and J ohn Posca in moto o ne by eig h t seconds. Round two saw Turn er 's luck tak e a cha nge for the worse as S u r ra tt p owered his Yamaha to th e front of th e pack at th e start, leading Turner by a short distance the wh ol e race. Berg manag ed to shoot past Kline for third shortl y before th e finish with Marc Peters holding off Tim Whitlock for fifth. Turner 's 1-2 tally gave him his third overall win o f the nigh t. Kline placed second with a 2-4 score, top p ing Berg, Surratt and Zahrt, Jason Shirey claimed th e win in the la rgest 60cc class of the year , to p p ing more than a dozen riders.
