Fab io Belassio's clear dominance of th e 250 and 125cc Novice classes, Belassio p laced first in the 250cc class and second in the 125s, but m issed the 125cc first place o n ly because of a 'poor start in th e first moto. Gabriel Guardado, sharing in the 'do m ina nce , took first place in the I25cc Novice class and ran an honest second p lace in the 250cc division, Motocross is still a relative ly yo ung spo rt in Mexico and th e great improvement in this event from 1987 to 1988 indicates that th e Interna tional Grand Prix could be a bigger and better rac e event in the years to co me . OCT. 16 San Antonio, Texas rider Dan ny Storbeck aced the 25.0ccExpert class in two race even ts ·in the 2nd Annual Carta Blan ca International Grand P rix of Motocross. Hondam ounted Storbeck won th e first tw o motos held a t Goodtimes Motorsports Park in San Antonio, th en at Monterrey's 26 Parque Cuau th em oc y Farno sa h e o nce a ga in dominat ed th e 250cc Expert class. La st yea r' s in augural even t took ' pl ace in a valley near Monterrey. a nd th ousands of spec ta to rs wandered everyw here. including on th e track. Ther e wer e a lso man y p robl em s getting eq u ip me nt acro ss th e border. But this year things were different. The border crossin g was smoothed out. and the tra ck was moved downtown into a sm all baseba ll stadium. The tra ck was built in th e cen ter of the field a nd wa s tight, not espec ia lly fast. but inte restin g a nd ge nera lly sa fe with a few h ean- st oppin g jumps. T exas. blasted hi s way into first place in th e 125cc Expert class and managed a third place in th e 250cc Expert di vision. Mexico was well-represented by two H onda-mounted experts, Ped ro Gonza lez, of Monterrey, a nd Javier Coso, fro m Mexico City . Gonza lez placed fifth over a ll in th e 125cc Expert class a nd Cos o pl aced fifth overa ll in the 250s. Bad lu ck in th e form o f injuri es plagued severa l riders, including G onzal ez, wh o was su ffering th e effects of a brok en fool. T erry T inney was healing a fractured wrist. a nd H oenschell was banged up in a race two days before Monterrey. In spite of h is inj ured foo t, Gon za lez managed a hol esh ot a nd held the lead m uc h of the time at Monterrey, losi ng his lead as th e 15-lap race began to wea r h im down a n d yield in g posi tio ns as the moto went o n. Krempin has had a good year and domi nated his classes in T exas an d through much of th e Wesl. J eff Dem ent, rid ing an 80cc Kawasaki , dominated th e Mini Open and Mini Sen ior cla sses, receiving tough co m pe titio n from Mexi co 's Rosendo Gonzal ez, a lso o n a KX80, and from Ro wd y Fl an a gan , a no th er KX80 rid er.
