Kevin Atherton battled with Tim Merte ns over second as David Reeves moved up to challenge, Reeves slid down in turn one on lap six giving Mertens back 'th ird . Hebb and Atherton cruised home easily in front of Mertens, Bill Newkirk, Scott Adams arid Bob Brooks. The firs t semi was an exciting race as Lloyd jumped into the lead but Aseltine took over on lap three. Orr moved up to second on lap four and was pressuri ng Aseltine. Orr tried to sli p under Aseltine in turn three but got in too hard, hit him, almost saved it, a nd finally high-sided and ended up by the wall with hi s Harley ri ding him.
