Paul Krause (Kaw) was the overall winner at the AMA National Championship Hare & Hound in Reno. Nevada. October 2. Second · place went to defending National Champion Dan Smith (Hus). wh ile 1988 series points leader Larry Roeseler (Kaw) finished third. All three were riding 500s. First 250cc was Dave Porter (KTM) and first 125cc was John Braasch (Yam). The French Honda team of Dominique Sarron, Christophe Bouheben and Alex Vieira won the October 1 -2 Bol d'Or at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France. Yamaha is offering the YZ250WR as a " cl os ed course" competition motorcycle. The YZWR will come in a blue on wh ite color scheme. unlike t he YZ MXers. wh ich a re red on white. Both the YZ and YZWR will come with upside down ·Kayaba forks and 19-inch rear wheels. a nd th e NEMA, a new additio n to the program. Russell Paulk. 33, died in a Supersports practice session crash at Sears Point International Raceway in Sonoma, California. on Friday . September ' 30. Paulk started road racing in 1977 on a Yamaha TZ250 Yamaha. In 1983 he joined Team Hammer. playing a key role in the team 's 1983. 1984 and 1987 WERA National Endurance Championships. In 1986 Paulk campaigned a selfsponsored Honda RS500 in the AMA Formula One Series. finishing third in season points and fifth in the Camel Pro Road Race Series . This year Paulk camflaigned a Team Hammer/EMGO S uz uk i GSXR750 in AMA Supersport rac es and rode for Team S uz uk i in WERA National Endura nce Series events. Paulk had a B.S . deg ree in Mechanical Enginee ring Technology from Southern Tech, graduating in 1980. After graduating from college, Pa ulk w a s employed in the aeros pace ind ust ry , working first fo r Loc k heed in At lanta. t hen a t AVCO Ae rostructures in Nash ville, and at the ti m e of his death for Mc Donn ell - D o ugl as in S t . Grah am 's a ppea l rela ted to the August 28 Indy Mile: Graham contended tha t his crash in the main even t wa s ca us ed by an un sa fe passing move by T err y Poovey and asked that Poovey be discipl ined. Race officials had ru led - and the appea l board u nanim ously co n cu rred - that there was no basis in evidence to su pport an y disciplinary actio n against Poovey, who se thi rd pl ace fin ish in the even t was upheld. Dunlop is popping open the molds on several new tires. Five new 19inch rear tire sizes are now available - 110/90-19 in the K990ST soft terrain tire, 100/90-19 and 110-90-19 in the K6951T allterrain tire. and 100/90-.19 and 110/90-19 in the K595HT hard terrain tire. Dunlop says the new sizes have been added to meet the requirements of Yamaha and Kawasaki. who have introduced 19-inch rims on many of their '89 models.
