GARDENA, CA, SEPT. 9 J ohn Posca took his O 'Nea llCablesav rr/ Whozee/Long Beach Kawasaki/Raa: T ech/ Spectra/ Smith -sponsored Kawasaki 10 th e winner 's eircle in me 500cc P ro class a t Ascot Park. At the start o f the first moto, Po sca nailed the start to lead Sea n Co nley arou nd turn one. Pet e Murry got stuck in the backwards falling starting ga te, but quickly worked hi s way into third before th e end o f the second lap. At the halfway poi nt , Murray managed to sneak around Co n ley a n d move in to the runner-up position, directly behind Posca . Po sca soon dropped h i. bike. allowing both riders to take over the top two positions. Posca 9,uickly remounted and set aftrr Conley. W,th only a lap and a half remaining, Posca darted to the outside of Conley and moved int o second Posca slowly reeled in Murray, but it was too late. Murray took the win followed by Posca and Conley. Posca ca me back in the second moto to holeshot over Murray and Conley. The three ridrr. battled during the entire mot o before problem s forced Conley to drop o ff the pa ce. Ward doubles at EugeneMX By Clay Light EUGENE, OR, SEPT. 4 Larry Ward came close to a perfect sweep o f the Pro class motos a t the second round of a two-race CMC Gold Cup Series weekend , held at Eugene's . Emerald Ra ceway. But a crash on th e last lap o f th e first 250cc Pro moto gave Tony Graves a sin g le mota win. Despite the crash , Ward still neued two overall win s, th e 125 and 250cc Pro classes for an overa ll sweep o[ rounds o ne and two. Ward sh o t o ff th e lin e in the first 125cc Pro moto and waved to the cro wd that lined the incred ib le h igh-speed double jumps. Ward was chased by Graves and Eric Hall and pushed his wa y into a IO-second lead by the third lap while Graves did all he co u ld to reel in Ward.. Lap (OUT wa s a di saster [or Hall, as th e Honda Jock ey landed hard off the doubles, hurting h is wri st a nd moving O ster to third. Oster , riding a Kawasaki, could do little to close in on Graves, who had second place a ll to h imself well behind Ward, wh o went o n to w in the mOlo. The· controversial first 250cc Pro mot o , wh ich was the day 's co nuoversy, saw Ward in his familia r lead followed by Graves and Yamaha-mounted Larry J ac kso n . Ward opened up a good-sized lead, but with th e raa: nearing the midway point, Ward hit lapped rider s. and couldn't find a way ar ound, crashing in the process. This. p laced .G ra ves into the lead. Ward was surpnsed to find out at this point that it was the white nag .lap, and ran out of time, allowing Graves a win over Ward. Jackson.
