Hughes relentlessly worked hi s way up to seco nd. H e passed a n inte nse battle bet ween John Po sca and Joe Tuuoben e that lasted bo th mo tos and never seemed mor e th an th ree bi kes away. .Meanwhile Vin ce Warren 's hard ridin g had opened up a sizeable lead. bu t o n lap seven . mech an ical failure fini sh ed an exce llent rid e. In th e seco nd mo to , Hugh es was untouchab le as he passed Posca and never loo ked back. H ughes. Posca. and Tuuobene were the overall finish in g order. . The 12!kc Junior class saw tight ra cing with Roger Sae nz ma ki ng an excellent third co rner pass lo r th e lead on Derek Meyers.
